Friends, the climate at the University of Texas is the most hostile I have experienced in my entire career, and the hostility is directed at the most vulnerable students, faculty, staff and departments/programs. UT has become the test case for the implementation of Project 2025 in Higher Education
I should clarify my “clarification.”The university has offered us NO reason or rationale for this restructuring. Moreover, we know nothing about what is being discussed because NO REPRESENTATIVE FROM LATINO STUDIES is on the committee.
Latinos are not only the largest population in the state of Texas (which is now a majority minority state), they are also 47% of the workforce. So much for SB37’s edict to “prepare students for the workforce.”
Actually, several of the departments targeted are quite well funded through endowments so funding is not the issue.
just to clarify, based on university communications about this move it is not related to SB 37. No rational has been given for why it is a good idea to close down these departments which the university has strongly supported in the past.
