In this project, 13 ventilated improved pit latrines, 21 sanitary pit latrines, and 4 septic tank latrines were constructed with distribution of water containers as reservoirs, and sanitary landfill and composting sites established to improve environmental sanitation and reduce disease risks.
This photo shows local efforts to build sanitary pit latrines for families in Upper Myanmar. Together, communities planned locations for latrines and water access points, while MCHS provided technical and material support.
At MCHS, we value community involvement and ownership. We also believe a true change happens only when people are drivers of their own solutions instead of just being beneficiaries.
Community-led action is cost efficient and sustainable. Local communities know best what materials are available, what solutions work for them, and how to achieve their sanitation goals.

Through these awareness efforts, MCHS has engaged over 324 community members. Together, we are strengthening awareness, preventing disease risks, and promoting healthier environments. To truly prevent potential outbreaks, much more focus and investment in environmental sanitation is still needed.
All participants paid close attention during the session — and just as importantly, they have been practicing outside what they learned. This shows that knowledge gained is transforming into community action.
MCHS focuses on social work activities and creating safe spaces where diverse communities can communicate and learn together.

We must not forget that healing takes time and the necessity to invest in community-based mental health support so that no one is left behind.
In this photo, an MCHS volunteer is sharing mental health IEC materials with a community member encouraging her to build self-awareness, find safe spaces, listen actively, and seek referral points if needed.
Even six months after the deadly earthquake hit in March 2025, many affected families continue to experience trauma. Disrupted sleep, fear, and discomfort still surface whenever certain triggers occur, e.g. when their homes shake or sudden noises outside remind them of the earthquake memory.
Since May 2025, with the support of 18 dedicated volunteers across Sagaing, Mandalay, Amarapura, and Nyaung Shwe, MCHS has provided mental health education and psychological first aid to over 2150 people through individual and small group sessions. #MentalHealth #CommunitySupport #MCHS
