As we continue into #FNEweek we want to highlight the amazing care FNEs provide. FNEs are specially trained to offer compassionate and trauma-informed care to survivors of sexual assault and abuse, while also advocating for the importance of survivor autonomy and choice.
Today for #FNEweek we want to highlight two important jobs FNEs take on: Collecting evidence and documenting findings. This aids law enforcement in their investigations and can help bring justice to survivors who are interested in the criminal justice route.
It's Forensic Nurse Examiner Week! We'll be dedicating a post each day to thank FNEs. MCASA encourages those who work in the sexual assault response process to reach out to a FNE you know & thank them for providing medical treatment to survivors with compassion.
This Halloween, remember to look out for each other & build respectful party spaces! We can respect each other's boundaries & create environments where sexual violence isn't tolerated. Remember, costumes are not consent.

If you're a survivor of sexual assault in Maryland, help is available. To find your local rape crisis center, visit our website (mcasa.org/survivors/fi...) or call 211 to be connected with local resources. You can also call MCASA's SALI for legal support: 301-565-2277.
If you're a survivor of domestic violence, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is a 24/7, confidential, and free resource. You can call 800-799-SAFE (7233) or text ‘START’ to 88788.
Domestic violence includes physical, emotional, mental, financial, & sexual abuse of an intimate or romantic partner. Sexual violence & DV often overlap, & it's important to recognize the needs of survivors this month & beyond.

Threats to federal funding due to the shutdown have immediate & severe consequences for survivors & their children, programs they rely on, & advocates who help them. Congress must act to protect the lifesaving services survivors depend on!

MCASA’s training program reaches thousands of advocates per year. Since our start we’ve held over 800 trainings & conferences to support MD professionals working with survivors. Training just 1 advocate means 75 survivors will have better services. Help us keep training: https://loom.ly/szIwh7g
Laws are only as good as their ability to be used, & MCASA’s @SALIorg is here to help survivors of sexual violence seek justice. SALI served more than 180 sexually abused children in 2024 alone. Help us keep serving the most vulnerable among us: https://loom.ly/OFqK8ms
