Is sustainability thinking too WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic)? New article by Rachelle Gould, Yolanda Jimenez Naranjo and @pattybal.bsky.social
How WEIRD is your #sustainability thinking? This article explores how Western psychological #norms shape global sustainability efforts - often at the expense of more #relational worldviews from non-WEIRD cultures. 🔗 www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
Didn’t think I needed another dystopian sci-fi to kick off my summer reading, but Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah's “Chain-Gang All-Stars” proved me wrong. Gladiator fights for prisoner freedom in a privatised US prison system? Uncomfortably plausible.

In 1823, during his Black Painting series, Goya painted "Duelo a garrotazos", translated as "Duel with Cudgels". The painting depicts two men violently striking each other with cudgels while seemingly trapped in a muddy or barren landscape, often interpreted as an allegory of civil strife.
I am, of course, of no help but thanks for the validation! I’ve been having the same wide range in quotes: Booking starts at $50, the rental car company starts at $700.
Of course! I was happy to support this effort. I am still waiting for the patio weather but yes, let’s make this happen.
The BEING BLACK IN PUBLIC survey report is out—a powerful act of testimony, care, and visioning, released on the fifth anniversary of George Floyd’s murder. Led with such honesty, rigour, and heart by my brilliant colleague @jaypitter.bsky.social. Dig in, reflect, share.
Today marks 5 years since George Floyd was murdered in a bike lane. My practice has launched the BEING BLACK IN PUBLIC Survey Report. All findings outline challenges & positive experiences reflecting Black people’s public space insights & priorities.

I love the ferns. We plantef some a couple of years ago. They look nothing like yours but I still have hope.
When in doubt, plant some more native plants.
Community-rooted visions of the future are critical in uncertain times. I'm continually inspired by the work of this group of dedicated, uncompromising, and visionary organizers in the Waterloo Region. It's been a pleasure to support them, even in small ways. onemillionneighbours.ca/vision/

A good read if, like me, you feel you are trying your best and your best is simply not good enough.
Grateful to everyone who shared their thoughts with me for this piece about the difference between how people imagined they would show up for a moment like this one, and how we're actually showing up—and how we can begin to close the gap between aspiration and action.

Feeling for my colleagues south of the border. Yesterday we received a stop-work order on a new NSF grant. Last week, my friend’s name appeared on a list identifying professors who were “DEI hires”. It hasn’t been a month.
Ecosystems and People (@esandpeople.bsky.social) is now on this space! We are an inter- and transdisciplinary journal on biodiversity, ecosystems & quality of life. Give us a follow!
Thanks to whoever made this labyrinth next to my campus building. It was a gift to take 10 minutes to walk through it and disconnect from whatever stage of late capitalism we are in. 🤍❄️
