The subminimum wage is a vestige of slavery that disproportionately impacts Black and Brown workers, specifically women, the most. On the two year anniversary of passing the One Fair Wage Ordinance in Chicago, we reaffirm our commitment ensuring all workers are heard, seen, and valued.

This is a devastating day for our city. We are grieving with Officer Rivera's family and her loved ones. Officer Rivera was a hero who was loved by many and she will be missed dearly. Please keep Officer Rivera's family in our prayers, Chicago.

Graphic: This is a devastating day for our city. Last night, a young officer was taken from us in the line of duty. Officer Krystal Rivera was a beloved daughter and the mother of a young daughter who will miss her mom for the rest of her life.
Officer Rivera was a hero who served on the force for four years. She had a long career in front of her. A bright future was stolen from her family and from her loved ones.
She worked hard every day to make our communities safer. Her fellow officers talk about her dedication to serve and her unmatched work ethic. Officer Rivera had just taken guns off the street earlier in the day and was pursuing an armed individual when she was struck. She was killed trying to save the lives of Chicagoans who she would never even meet. She was a hero and we will never forget her sacrifice.

Crime is down in Chicago. We are grateful for this progress, but we know there is more to do. I want to thank our police officers, first responders, violence intervention workers, and community organizations who all worked hard this weekend keeping Chicagoans safe.
