ÅNGSTRÖM-RESOLUTION IMAGING OF CELL-SURFACE GLYCANS 🧬🎨🍬

The glycocalyx, our cells' sugar coat, holds secrets in immunology, cancer, viral infections, and more. Visualizing its molecular architecture was impossible… until now. #glycotime #microscopy

only took me 4 hours this time to get all dependencies sorted out to run #cellpose in #cellprofiler. Documentation is great for both, but every system I install this on has it's own set of problems to get started. sigh.

Cool to see another example of non-conventional/mitotic CDK (6) activity on #microtubules: doi.org/10.1083/jcb.... . We found a role for CDK1 changing microtubule dynamics during microglial activation and I was curious to see if there are more cases like this!
Non-canonical CDK6 activity promotes cilia disassembly by suppressing axoneme polyglutamylation
Polyglutamylation, a major posttranslational modification of tubulin on the axoneme, is crucial for the signaling functions and stability of primary cilia.

We just released and uploaded a new version of *Mastodon*, the large-scale tracking and track-editing framework for large, multi-view images.

Mastodon is available via Fiji, via a dedicated update site.

I was thinking about the Mizar Tilt lightsheet today. There was quite a buzz when it was released but I haven't heard much about it since. Do people like it?

Our paper “A genome-wide atlas of human cell morphology” is finally out today in @naturemethods.bsky.social ! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

(I tweeted about our preprint in 2023 over at the bad place, but deactivated my account, so here we go again!)

Advances in microscopy mean we can now do more than just observe biology—we can control it. But how far can we really push this in mammalian cells with all their (beautiful but annoying) heterogeneity? 🧪🔬(🧵)

Still digesting a lot of new ideas I picked up at #AIM2025 last week. Got inspired to pick up new analysis tools and take a closer look at a few imaging modalities. Stefan Hell's talk on using #minflux for dynamic protein structures was 🤯 as were all the SCAPE applications by Elizabeth Hillman!

Had a nice visit from @interherence.bsky.social and their QuScite today at our lab! Neat waveguide TIRF solution, solid engineering and can be added to any scope. Looking forward to a full demo later this year!
