Usually you just lose, regardless. Where we've won, though, it is almost always because very smart, very courageous people saw a narrow, non-obvious path through a minefield of oppressive state power and social hierarchy and then developed and enforced a high degree of strategic discipline within their movement, developing the means to organize, inspire, and when necessary coerce people to move in coordination toward shared political objectives.
