We're delighted to see this paper about the journey to create VIEWER. At the Maudsley Charity, we've been pleased to fund continued development of this digital tool, now called Locating Useful Clinical Information (LUCI). Find out more here: maudsleycharity.org/case-studies...
7. Value the process as much as the outcome

The process itself creates value by building stronger networks and relationships, generating new insights, and leaving organisations more confident, informed and better connected.

6. Strong questions, strong bids

The questions funders ask can help shape the quality of the applications they receive. It is important to get them right.
5. Language matters

Simplifying language isn’t just about style; it is a practical step towards inclusion that leads to new ways of thinking.
4. Bring in a neutral support partner

Power dynamics are real, and applicants notice them. Create spaces that don’t feel ‘funder-influenced’
3. Build inclusion and flexibility into every stage

Inclusion can’t be an add-on; it has to be designed in from the start.
2. Invest in relationships

Partnerships don’t grow out of goodwill alone. Sometimes organisations need active support to make the right connections.
1. Create space before delivery (and invest in it!)

Collaboration takes time – and often money. Funders need to be visible and accessible, and to invest in the early stages before expecting detailed delivery plans.
Our Building Brighter Futures fund looked to embed collaboration and co-production into funding design.

We share what we’ve learnt, and what lessons funders everywhere could consider when thinking about how to invest in collaboration. Blog: maudsleycharity.org/news/when-fu...
