One of THE video covers of my childhood. Walking into Blockbuster and seeing this on the shelf was like being struck by lightning. It was a profound and moving experience, like seeing a really beautiful painting. Frank Zagarino as the Mona Lisa, really.

Hooper is part of the series’ half-arsed, somewhat smug meta-commentary on Gein’s influence on Psycho, Chain Saw Massacre, and pop culture. Unsuccessful but bold and interesting to say the least.

For all its flaws, the fact Monster: The Ed Gein Story gives us Tobe Hooper as an actual character is wild and I’ll defend it to the hilt because of that.
