I can't promise I'll post that much here. But by way of #introduction, I do data/analysis things mainly in #rstats, largely on helping public organisations work better.

Streeting said he's abolishing the "biggest quango in the world"... perhaps, but definitions matter. And I'm not convinced that NHS England qualifies as the UK's biggest quango let alone the world's.

I wondered when I’d think Bluesky had “made it”… I can now doomscroll effectively and have had my first follows from female presenting OnlyFans-promoting scam-bots. So yeah I think that means Bluesky has made it.

"Abandon all hope, ye who enter here" #rstats

Yes is a bit brain melty at first, but it demonstrates how fundamentally flexible R actually is. I wonder in how many other languages it would be this easy to change array indexing.
I've found the perfect way to make #rstats programmers scream in existential terror. Behold zero-indexed R!

Redefining reality with <15 lines of code is so hot right now.

Now watch as I calmly refer to v[0] while maintaining direct eye contact.

Typically my little bot project just posts pictures of bridges, boats, wildlife and industrial heritage… sometimes it finds interesting insights into modern life.

Most humans wouldn’t use a dictionary to calculate the area of a square. Yet this pretty much what this example is doing.
you fucked up a perfectly good computer is what you did. look at it. it's got innumeracy

One of my favourite things about #rstats is the joyous things you get in R ecosystem documentation.

If they're combining Norfolk (i.e. north folk) with Suffolk (i.e. south folk)... shouldn't the new combined entity just be called Folk or maybe something like Allfolk, Twafolk (Twa being Old English for two), or Bathfolk/Batfolk/Bahfolk (baþe being Old English for both).
Six areas have been added to the government’s Devolution Priority Programme - paving the way for more mayor-led authorities.

They are:

• Cumbria
• Cheshire & Warrington
• Norfolk & Suffolk
• Greater Essex
• Sussex & Brighton
• Hampshire & Solent

While I'm on a posting spree...

Have you ever thought "My feed could do with more pictures of the canal network of England and Wales?"... Is that a "yes" I hear?

Well then, I'm behind the @narrowbotr.bsky.social bot which does exactly that!
