Soul legend and "Brown Sugar" hitmaker D'Angelo has died. He was 51.

On Tuesday, Oct. 14, TMZ reported that D'Angelo (born Michael Eugene Archer) confirmed news of his death after a private battle with pancreatic cancer.

most of my unpopular opinions seem fairly hinged—Pynchon is overrated; D. H. Lawrence is (now) underrated; Walden is immensely better than anything Emerson wrote; Naipaul wrote some fantastic novels, the bastard. I suppose I believe that literature is basically finished, but is that unhinged?

The distinction between genre and literary isn't just bad but--more importantly--meaningless since it is a category error.
