Every dog wants the same simple thing to be loved and to matter to someone.

They don’t care about status or perfection. They just want a person who sees them as special, who calls them good dog, and means it.

Annie was first off the ship where she was greeted by various officials in recognition of her being the first person processed in the new centre on Ellis Island. Statues commemorating Annie now stand in Cobh and Ellis Island. 🇮🇪

☘️ Annie Moore was born in Cork in 1877. On December 20th, 1891, Annie and her younger brothers Anthony and Phillip boarded the S.S. Nevada bound for New York. The trio spent 12 days at sea amongst 148 passengers in steerage.

Freedom became an educational bird, often perched on Jeff’s arm, inspiring others with her quiet dignity. Over time, they formed a bond built on patience, trust, and shared resilience.

Then, in 2000, Jeff’s life took a dark turn he was diagnosed with stage three cancer.

He cared for her every day feeding her, sitting beside her, talking softly, and encouraging her to hold on. After weeks of struggle, Freedom finally stood on her own. She would never fly again, but she was alive a living symbol of strength.
