Listening to an uncomfortable interview with Geoffrey Hinton about the problems with AI safety.

He was asked as a final sign off "can you say something positive?"

His response:
"We may survive"

This was all great, but the chat near the end about CPD in schools was particularly interesting.

If you're already doing something that works, making that better is a more efficient way to improve teaching than introducing something new.
NEW EPISODE

I don't think these are the responses you meant to attach to that question @teachertapp.bsky.social
January 22, 2026 at 4:21 PM
Things you don't expect to read on a maths exam paper:

"Explain why he has stabbed himself in the stomach"

I love this question more every time I see it.
@meimaths.bsky.social What was going on when this was published!? 😂

Hey #mathsky, help me out.

A while ago over on the bad place there were some lists shared of maths adjacent reading for pleasure books.

Does anyone know if they were shared outside of X, and if so where I could find them?

I am branching out into Whole school timetabling this year...
What are peoples go to for initial set up? Pen and paper? Excel? Straight into timetabling software?
Any retweets outside of maths would be great too.

Owning a medal doesn't make you a medal winner, it makes you a medal owner.

Machado understands this, Trump doesn't.

Which is precisely why she won the prize in the first place.

I'm gonna keep banging this drum:

AI is a useful tool for an expert, it can provide shortcuts and efficiencies in the same way as many other tech tools do.

AI is a massive problem for anyone inexpert, because it makes stuff up. If you lack expertise you just can't tell how good the output is.
