Aventurine freezes.

“What?” Ratio asks to his silence, flipping the page of his book. “You clearly were not enjoying yourself last time, so let’s do it this way. Unless, of course, you’d rather not do it at all—fine by me. Just keep your mouth shut so that I can enjoy my reading time.”

“No, I,” Aventurine begins, then falters. “But you’re the one who’s supposed to be on top.”

He realizes how ridiculous he sounds as soon as the words leave his mouth.

“And why is that?”

Aventurine has no answer for him.
