Other innovative ways the group has employed to involve all demographics has included the introduction of a female online chat group, which has resulted in an increase in female participation in Hampshire Ornithological Society outings, demonstrating just what a progressive and dynamic society it is
Hampshire Ornithological Society has also provided very unique and exciting opportunities to its members, for example, the chance to create 3D bird images with a talented wildlife artist.
Hampshire Ornithological Society has had further positive impacts in encouraging interest from the future generation, with the kind offer of free membership to those in full time education.
There has even been a careers masterclass conducted by various professionals working in the field of ornithology, helping to prepare young members for life too.
Hampshire Ornithological Society’s wide range of engagement activities, particularly focussed on young people, is truly inspirational. Such initiatives include outings, ringing demonstrations, events, workshops and online sessions.
The MCT Recently presented the Marsh Ornithology Awards in Partnership with @btobirds.bsky.social Three Awards were presented across different categories.

Marsh Award for Local Ornithology - Hampshire Ornithological Society
Ramandeep has really gone ahead and beyond to promote ornithology, and her enthusiasm has helped inspire many others to get involved and had such a wide reach.
She is also an active member of other groups, including the Mindfulness and Mental Health working group, both of which help support BTO’s wellbeing and inclusivity initiatives.
She has also written articles for BTO News and shared her passion and knowledge through podcasts and webinars. Additionally, she has been the first BTO Youth Representative to single handedly start a working group, The Confluence of Voices, with the BTO Youth Engagement Programme.
and via participation in multiple public speaking opportunities.

Ramandeep has put tremendous efforts into promoting ornithology through various platforms including as a BTO Youth Representative, as an organiser of local events designed to connect young people from diverse backgrounds with birds and nature,

Ramandeep is an exceptional young advocate for birds and conservation, which is evident through her many ornithological endeavours.

The Marsh Award for Young Ornithologist was awarded to Ramandeep Nijjar
He has recently published the definitive monograph on storm petrels, one of his specialist subjects. He is a founder and co-director of Eco-explore, a not-for-profit company which aims to help conserve our birds by conducting vital research and encouraging community engagement with birds.
He has conducted wide-ranging academic research on topics varying from the effects of climate change on seabirds and migratory land birds, to dietary wariness, and an investigation of how capture and handling impact bird physiology and behaviour.
Rob has made an enormous contribution to ornithology through first-class academic research and inspirational teaching and mentorship. He has inspired generations of undergraduate and postgraduate students, including several who have gone on to become BTO staff members.
