I've always wanted to have tea with a faun.

Some may cringe at the practical effects in the 1988 BBC version of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," but to me they're part of the whimsy.

#Centaurs have long been a symbol of polarity. Savage vs. civilized, reason vs. intellect.

Freud saw the centaur as a model for human nature. The human half represented the conscious ego and superego. The horse half symbolized the unconscious id, with its primal drives and impulses.

We love polarity in fiction.

There’s no better dramatization of internal conflict than Gollum arguing with himself in The Lord of the Rings. Two voices, one soul, locked in a battle for control.

I think we resonate with stories like this because we are full of contradictions ourselves.

#Centaur facts: Centaurs began to disappear from retellings of myths beginning in the 6th century CE. However, in the middle ages, centaurs began appearing in imagery in Christian churches, where they were associated with bestial desires or even the devil hunting for human souls. #centaursunday

MET Museum: Textile from Perugia featuring centaur. The inscription, only partially legible and apparently mixing Latin and Italian, invokes the name of Christ and the Church, indicating the cloth’s original use in a religious context.

The ancient Greeks reinterpreted the archer constellation through their own mythological lens, likely imagining Sagittarius as a symbolic centaur archer rather than a specific mythological character. Some later sources identify the constellation with Chiron, the wise centaur. #mythology #centaurs

The Babylonians identified Sagittarius with Nergal, an archer god associated with war and the underworld, while the Sumerians linked it to the similar deity Pabilsag. These gods were typically portrayed as composite beings—part human, part horse or other animal, often with wings and a scorpion tail.

The ancient Greeks inherited the constellation Sagittarius from Babylonian and Sumerian astronomy, where it already existed as a prominent figure in the zodiac. "Sagittarius" comes from Latin (via Roman adoption) and means "archer," commonly represented by a centaur drawing a bow.
