What would you do if the operator of an oil well & related equipment could not produce a “surface lease” granting a right to be on the land & stopped paying compensation to you three years ago?

It’s a growing Alberta problem you’re bearing the cost of.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who produces food from the land.

This year increased awareness was created amongst urban Albertans that irresponsible oil and gas is not just a rural problem.

I’m thankful for that and to those who joined together to help make it happen. 🙏

At a fast pace there’s a half century or o upon & gas closure work to be done. It would bring prosperity to almost every corner of Alberta for a generation. Hotels, restaurants, sales of equipment, rigs, cement trucks, earth moving equipment, soil science careers and much more.

The final speaker in our fascinating and controversial series on Dave Yager’s Alberta Mature Asset Strategy Report is Bill Heidecker of the Alberta Surface Rights Federation(front right below).

The @thenarwhalca attended and accurately reported on two of these meetings.

Pls help spread the word!

Retiring spent wells and remediation and reclamation of related sites, so they can be returned to the registered landowners for their use, is big business with lots of jobs. Spin-off for hotels, restaurants snd many other businesses.

Polluter pay is the only way!

It didn’t take long for an oil company to rely on the flawed decision of the CEO of Alberta Energy Regulator to cancel a hearing on coal applications, commented on by Prof. @nigelb.bsky.social, to argue landowner associations should be denied (intervenor) status in AER Proceeding ID 462.

This Tuesday I welcomed this Chief of Staff to speak to landowners, colleagues & others who trust me as to very important matters.

I wonder: Is this true?

Alberta energy minister’s chief of staff runs political third party with oil and gas lobbyist.

If you are interested in keeping Alberta from going bankrupt because we let oil & gas run wild, you might want to attend this Mature Asset Strategy event on September 9th at 7PM. It’s shaping up to be quite a night with important attendees.

Holy! This X post by a very rude dude who has me blocked explains a lot.

If you don’t know who (broke) Pieridae is, or aren’t aware of their regulatory struggles, you won’t get it.

Wakey wakey slumbering Alberta citizens. A huge portion of Alberta’s spent conventional oil & gas wells are owned by small broke producers. This is the tip of the iceberg that could cost you big $.

Last night (Warburg) we had a lively, informative, respectful discussion, on Alberta’s Mature Asset Strategy.

@NagwanYYC.bluesky.social, shadow Energy & Mines minister, opposition NDP, spoke to landowners. She was warmly welcomed. 👏

A govt. official was in the audience making it interesting!

Are you in the Edmonton Drayton Valley, Alberta area?

Interested in the topic of who will bear the cost of closing down mature conventional oil & gas infrastructure in the near future, industry or you?

$130 billion is on the line.

Come to Warburg tonight:

Are the rights of those who host oil and gas on their land about to be weakened under the guise of Alberta's Mature Asset Strategy?

Will citizens be required to cover the cost of industry sins through new legislation in the fall?

The discussion starts in Didsbury on August 14. Join us!

Natural gas (mainly methane) is harmful to human health. Good to see a report on this.

With respect, I disagree with a regulatory point (IMO Alberta wells not properly suspended must be abandoned - plugged - by law).

Huge issue - impact of venting on landowner compensation - not addressed.

#Alberta paid $30M+ in land rents for delinquent oil & gas companies in 2024, according to media reports this week.

It’s just one of the financial, health and safety risks posed by the 500K+ unused wells across Canada.
