A fantastic summary & discussion of modern takes on skill challenges that ends with a take I can't disagree with: we should all put a little chocolate in our peanut butter.
NEW on the Blog: Skill Challenges. You know 'em. Or maybe you think you know 'em. Let's take a look at what they were, and what people thought they were.

Three games came out this year with some improvements to the tech. Let's look at those, too!

Skill Challenges: Who Inherits the 4e Crown? - Barilleon's Web Zone
It’s the year 2025, and everybody is obsessed with this ttrpg called Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition. Can’t get enough of it. There’s no shortage of games that cite 4e as inspiration for their own mech...

Congrats to the whole MCDM team for funding! Over 1.25 million in less than a day is such an enormous feat.

The radenwight ancestry in Draw Steel's Crack the Sun is reviving my desire to write an epic radenwight adventure about gathering allies to stand with a noble ratfolk army against something monstrous underground.

It's probably nostalgia for my Redwall-obsessed childhood, but I'm okay with that 😆

The individual Acts of the epic Crack the Sun adventure sound like such bangers. I'm curious to see how they guide players between adventures because 1) weak links between adventures are such a long-standing problem in big campaigns and 2) I trust the MCDM team to come up with a great solution.

Have I been obsessively thinking about how to make boss adversaries in Daggerheart since returning from PAXU?

Why yes, yes I have. Seems @mikerunderwood.bsky.social has this particular brainworm too :)

I should probably admit to myself redeye flights are getting harder as I get older and stop booking them 🫠

Just landed in Philly, though! Let the PAXU shenanigans commence :)

A thoughtful review on The Great Thaw of Gryzmithrak Spire for Draw Steel! It's fun to see people playing the adventure, and I'm always jazzed when someone takes the time to share their thoughts :)
I got to run The Great Thaw by @margomods.bsky.social, one of, if not the first 3rd Party Crowdfunders for #DrawSteel!

It was a trial game for my players, after running the start of the Delian Tomb for others. I wanted to try another adventure to improve my Directing. Here are my thoughts.

I am so excited for people to watch this 10 Candles + Vaesen mini series. This ended up being the most emotional game I have ever been a part of. I had no idea what I was getting into 👀

Airing at 7 EST on twitch.tv/bossjellybean. VOD will be on YouTube!

If you like TTRPG characters with secrets, traumas, or fears, I have an easy hack for making it really fun at the table.

Attach the key to your character's growth or their motivation for confronting their fears to helping/interacting with another player character and watch how much RP it inspires.

Today, I am launching a new D&D 5E Kickstarter collaboration, but I am still reeling from a weekend filming the most intense and emotional TTRPG story I've ever been a part of!

So much to do! It's truly so hard to express how radically my life has shifted (and improved) since leaving academia.

MCDM really did a fantastic job filling the Draw Steel books with cool stuff to use. I keep being delightfully surprised each time I find preexisting support/content in the books for the wild ideas that pop into my head.

Also excited that my physical copies arrived!!

Oohhh, my Crooked Moon book arrived! I can already tell this is going to be a book I crack open constantly to launch myself into one of my favorite headspaces: spooky forests for TTRPGs.

Oops, I got a little too lost in the D&D worldbuilding sauce for this desert adventure.

It's been too much fun fusing environmental science shenanigans with fantasy nonsense, though. I took black lung and asked the question: what if they inhaled glowing dust falling from a crack in the sky instead?

Cool, cool. I spent 30* (THIRTY!!**) minutes answering emails today. I can take the rest of the day off, right?

*yes, this isn't very much time at all
**but consider this: it FEELS like an eternity!

I was nodding along to James Introcaso on YouTube as he listed off classic antagonists in upcoming Draw Steel adventures... until he said one of them takes you to the SUN?

I mean.. yes, some GMs want to throw their players into the sun, but I don't think they meant it like that! I can't wait 👀

In today's D&D writing fugue, I made a casual reference to plato's cave to fuel some cosmic horror with a lonely god on the underside of reality. I'd say today's going pretty well!
