Fully ruptured ACL and badly torn meniscus. The meniscus cannot be repaired. I’m doing PT and have graduated from wheelchair to crutches to cane to finally walking (limping) on my own. Another 6 weeks until we decide if I’m coping without an ACL or if I’ll have surgery.

Burning Man selfie.

I got badly injured early in the event and spent the week in a wheelchair. I got dressed up for the Tuesday night Ranger Social but it dumped rain so I took off my makeup and went to bed.

It was not the best Burn. I did still manage to volunteer but not as much as planned.

Love from another old bat. Still gothing out at 55 - some 40 years after my first stab at my eyes with black eyeliner. Why be normal?

Persephone

A screen capture of a poem:

Persephone

She walks in the dark,
stepping
From toadstool to leaf,
Her moony face burning with light
That is not hers.
She steals it from others,
Drains it of coarse warmth
And reflects it back,
now silver,
now cold.
Still
Everyone wants a piece of that light
Holding out their hands in prayer,
In plea,
“Look here! Persephone! Favor me!”
I begged too,
Too long
Basking in her light,
Telling myself
That it felt warm.

But she never looks,
or favors them.

She just sinks.

Down, down.
Past the grinding engines,
Past the bones,
Past the magma fields.
Into the darkness.

I thought she was dead,
Once.
Her mouth stained,
wine-dark,
Her womb seeded but empty.
Sweetness on her lips,
Bitter in her heart,
Paralyzed on the ground
With the screams of
A million children
In her ears.

Bonnie in Blue (My Mother as a Teen) - watercolor

(I destroyed my left ACL and meniscus at Burning Man so I’m trying to find things to occupy me while I heal. Painting is one thing I enjoy, even if I’m not great at it.)

A very amateur watercolor painting of a young woman on a green background. She has blonde hair, hazel eyes, and a pink mouth, and is wearing a blue sweater.

A moody black and white photo of n umbrella plant in a rounded clay pot. The plant sits on a low table in a corner where two white walls meet. It casts shadows on the wall behind it.

I had a boyfriend who was afraid of chickens. I lived on a farm. One day, he was visiting while I tended the chickens. A rooster jumped up as I opened the gate. My boyfriend pushed me into the cage, shut the gate, and ran away. He was in his 20s.

I didn’t break up with him then but I should have.

That is awesome! I love spiders, but I understand phobias. I always cheer when someone is able to conquer their fears. (Thanks to Ray Bradbury, my main phobia is ‘untethered space walk’. I don’t expect I’ll ever get to face and conquer that.)

A portrait of a femme person with red hair and green eyes staring at the camera with a challenging expression. Ey is wearing heavy, metallic green eyeshadow, a black lace dress, and a Pride ribbon, as well as a lace-covered respirator mask.

My awesome niece is coming to Burning Man with me this year and I’m so excited! We went together in 2023 (Drowning Man) and even as hard as it was that year, we had fun. Getting excited to Burn all the things! (But first: pack all the things.)

I am still haunted by this poem, "The Myth Was Never The Unicorn," written by one of the teens who participated in the creative writing program at the museum this summer. A reminder that girls are always aware.

Read the full piece and listen to the author recite it: journey75.org/2025/the-myt...
They say unicorns bow to virgin maidens,
but they don’t say what happens after they kneel.
They don’t say what the horn is for.
They say they are gentle,
but only in the way a trap is gentle when it waits.

What a beautiful surname! (I got it almost right.) I love to assign Scrabble values to names; you’ve got a good one!

My surname is Boudreaux. BOO-dro. 2 syllables. People manage to add 2-3 syllables to it routinely, and think it ends with -ex.

It’s a lifelong source of great joy and amusement.

True! I feel the same about many basic appliances. I need help maneuvering appliances, but once they’re upside down or whatever, I’ve fixed my own dishwasher and washing machine for a tiny fraction of the repairman cost. Pumps, motors, tubes, and most electronics are pretty easy fixes.

My spouse fixed the swamp cooler. Tomorrow we will see if they can fix the fridge.

My refrigerator and my swamp cooler both conked out on today. I have everything from the fridge n ice in coolers and I’m sweating in my bed, unable to sleep due to heat and frustration.

Good times, good times.

I finished this tonight. I really like this series a lot and I hope there will be more.
