summaries and previews of tech books are great, but sometimes a different POV is nice.

on our site, you can see how data-oriented programming in java's ideas come together in practice.

insightful review and breakdown of nicole's book, transformers in action ↓

pretty neat when someone very familiar with the field is still able to get something out of it and not just newbies.

phil windley, dynamic authorization's author, has a blog to accompany his book.

it's a good read if you wanna know in what context dynamic authorization matters & more: hubs.la/Q03-h0D10

plus, a lot of his posts start with a cute little anthropomorphic computer.

good discussion going on about writing for developers by @cynthiadunlop.bsky.social and @sarna.dev!

read below for more info ↓
That might be a bit old-school, but I love reading paperbacks. This one is my first from Manning, and I’m really impressed with the print quality!

And the content, ofc, speaks for itself thanks to @cynthiadunlop.bsky.social and @sarna.dev. Join us discussing it in the @overcommitted.dev community!

ajay chankramath went on the software leaders uncensored podcast to talk about his approach to platform engineering.

instead of blind tooling suggestions, he emphasizes the importance of choosing frameworks based an organization's context.

danilo's book, server-side webassembly, is now available in print!

read his thread for a much better breakdown than we could ever do ↓

During the last year and a half, I wrote a book on server-side WebAssembly. Getting into Wasm is hard. Resources are scattered, the tech is complex, and it's constantly changing. I wanted to contribute a resource to make learning easier. manning.com/books/server... (1/5) 🧵

being a skilled developer doesn't necessarily mean that person was a prodigy.

more often than not, it means they worked hard. and did so frequently. which is exactly what @teivah.dev does and champions thru his blog and new MEAP, the coder cafe.

Transformers in Action (shortener.manning.com/JdAP) is an excellent resource for learning how various transformer models work, how to specialize and train models, and ethical LLMs.

Thanks to Nicole Königstein for this @manning.com book! It's a great read

the messier life gets, the easier it is to miss the beauty.

that includes in your day-to-day.

our new MEAP, the art of code by sandrine banas, reminds you how both your creative & technical sides make for the best code.

a rare but meaningful combo.

AI agents are all the rage right now.

but maybe ppl don't really understand them?

and, tbh, sometimes they're not the right answer.

we've got a new MEAP, folks!

vibe engineering by @askowronski.bsky.social & tomasz lelek

we've talked a lot about vibe coding.

vibe engineering, though? not really. & that's why this one's so exciting.

how're y'all thinking about (or already doing) vibe engineering?

noro chalise came up with some pretty cool takeaways from nicole koenigstein's transformers in action.

imo, one of the best is that not all transformers are the same, and nicole doesn't shy away from that in her book.

you probably know your social feeds aren't random.

but why you're suddenly getting cat memes isn’t always obvious.

often, it's due to it's recommender systems.

how do you define AI slop?

imo, it's something that was purely crafted by AI.

so, if you asked it to make a draft shorter, it's not slop.

but if you went to AI & said, "write me a post," then yes, slop.

but even that is nuanced, because if you edit it, it's not slop. right...?

idk. thoughts?
