It might get interesting. What if they're really the gateways through which demons from another dimension possess a soul in this one? Those poor possessed people would need a... thing... to expulse... push the dark star demon out of their mind... what's the word I'm looking for?

Aren't we all, though? Like - variation on the theme: Some people spend their days pushing a viscous mass of words through a rigid mesh - or rather through rigid forms crafted by people they've never even met - often to be met by Windows error sound effects. It's enough to drive anyone bananas.

The final drop in the bucket that made me switch from google to Ecosia was the AI text at the beginning. Apart from the added environmental cost, I'm not about to completely give up on findings things out for myself. I might as well stop thinking. It's bad enough that I'm not heading to the library.

There are scattered historic precedents for this sort of thing: encircling an area, or a city, and completely destroying it - including mass murder of its inhabitants. The massacre of Béziers has strong parallels. Nazi cataclysms like Warsaw. The siege of Carthage. Others, in their own terrible way.
