this is genuinely wild
Looks like the Dems will pick up 12 seats in the VA House of Delegates, which will go from 51-49 to 63-37 D-R. That's an honestly shocking result.

Can you guess what animal this is?
try to adopt a long term perspective.

don’t win the battle, only to lose the war… be smarter… losing sucks, seeing a wedge issue you care about go unaddressed sucks, but sometimes, it’s also a way to win.
many dem voters won’t like it, but winning means embracing a big coalition, which means embracing some disagreement, potentially even about whatever issue you personally feel is most the important!
we may be seeing this with the democratic party, which is considering running pro life candidates in order to be more competitive in red states. that’s a pragmatic approach.
politicians should make the difficult choice to focus less on wedge issues.

( it’s a difficult choice because some politicians will lose elections as a result! )

but what’s more important, winning an election or actually serving the country?

( even if it’s just by not making things worse )
wedge issues are political issues that can be used to effectively divide people into different factions.

politicians often amplify wedge issues, because it helps them win elections.

but the long term cost to society from this behavior—division, discord, paranoia—is too high.

This view and idea must become a strong moral compass pointing toward the only sustainable path for the future: technological development must be inseparable from moral and spiritual growth.
the only thing we have to fear is wedge issues (or not)

NEW: Extraordinary scenes in the Serbian city of Novi Sad right now.

Hundreds of thousands of students have marched for days across Serbia.

A huge protest against Vučić’s government as they commemorate the anniversary of the Novi Sad rail station disaster, a year ago today.
