Trash and recycling cans have arrived at Universal Kids Resort, which according to theme park math means we’re “very close.”

The open-topped trash can in front of City Hall was gone by December 26, 1955, as seen in this shot from the Park's first holiday season.

Juxtaposition of the open-topped trash can in front of City Hall with the more familiar style in the foreground, attributed to 1955 (although without more specificity).

Yes, but there were some of the 1955/1957-1985 Main Street, U.S.A. trash cans there on Opening Day.

Here's a Keystone Cop protecting one on July 17, 1955.

In this early Disneyland photo, City Hall is accompanied by a plainly labeled "Waste" can, long before the park's signature themed cans arrived.

When I visited for the first time last year, I walked around quite a bit at the station, very confused. Took a while to navigate, so this is a nice improvement.
🚍 At the Resort bus station, the incoherent colors and characters system has now been fully removed, and Disney Hotels logos have been updated with colors that actually make sense:

Ever better if you watch with the laugh track turned off. The writing really shines through.
MASH is one of the greatest shows ever made. It centers a group of highly skilled people who are scared to be there, who hate the war that is happening there, and who will do their damnedest to help every single person they can for so long as they're suck there.
i cannot tell you how often i think back to MASH when writing. that ability to walk the line between humor and the darkest of humanity, yet never truly cross over into making light of it OR hopelessness--even though it toys with those things, too--is the line i strive for

Brown is not a theme.

When the Enchanted Forest opened in MK's New Fantasyland, trash cans mattered: stripes for Storybook Circus, faux wood for the forest.

Today? Brown boxes with a recycling logo.

If theming is storytelling, this chapter reads: “We stopped trying.”

Don't tell me that fake wood trash cans aren't worth it.

I saw the new pavers that they're installing in World Showcase, and while nice, they are not nearly as visible or interacted with as often as the trash/recycling cans. You're right, it certainly gives the visual language of giving up.
