Spent this evening watching Stereophonic (AKA the Fleetwood Mac story). Sporadically entertaining with some well performed songs, but a bit one dimensional & (like the album they’re recording) desperately in need of some editing. The sound engineer guy steals the show. #theatresky

Wishing a very happy birthday to the matchless Martin Scorsese. ❤️❤️❤️ A director who has not only spent decades making some of the greatest films of all time, but has been an indefatigable cinephile dedicated to expanding the horizons of movie lovers around the world! ❤️❤️❤️

So pleased have curated a film tribute to the late Peter Watkins with ICA London. First up, 22 Nov, his film Privilege, a swinging 60s artefact which hobbles the swinging. At its centre, a rock-star-as-empty-messiah, played by Manfred Mann’s Paul Jones. More soon!

The BFI National Archive appeared as a photoshoot location in October’s issue of Vogue, featuring the Rizwan brothers.

We had fun doing our own version for the #BFI Insta.

The definition of ‘grey belt’ is vague. This risks opening up Green Belt land to unnecessary development. We're supporting CPRE Hertfordshire's petition in calling for change. Sign the petition.

Loved The Line of Beauty at the Almeida. A funny, moving dissection of 80s England; class & politics, love & sex, excess & ugliness. The cast is flawless. #theatresky

#DRAGONFLY is released in select cinemas this weekend. What starts out as a touching, social realist drama, slowly builds a horrible sense of unease and gets very dark. An under the radar Brit gem with superb performances from Brenda Blethyn & Andrea Riseborough. #filmsky

Despite selling out our entire run in York, London sales for THE SIGNAL-MAN & THE TRIAL FOR MURDER are still a bit slow. We've got six showings between 31st October and 2nd November. A very classic Halloween treat, I'd argue - and in Charles Dickens's (probably definitely haunted) house!

Had an excellent #LFF this year, not a bad film among this lot. Roughly listed in preference, but not much between the first 6.
Thanks #BFI!

#LFF NOUVELLE VAGUE - Linklater LFF double bill part 2. The most purely entertaining film of the festival. A joyous homage to the French New Wave, that looks & feels incredibly authentic, with some absolutely miraculous casting. Was there ever a cooler looking bunch of film nerds? #filmsky

#LFF BLUE MOON - (Linklater LFF double bill part 1.) Ethan Hawke is brilliant in this, playing Hart as a desperate figure drowning in booze & hopeless infatuations, whilst spitting out an endless string of witty one liners. Laugh out loud funny and painfully melancholic. #filmsky

#LFF NO OTHER CHOICE -
Wasn’t expecting this to be quite so madcap. Slickly directed but overlong black comedy in the vein of Parasite, with a bleak punchline & great turn from Lee Byung-hun. Anyone know if the toothache was a reference to Korean classic Aimless Bullet? #filmsky

#LFF FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER - A slight, amusing trio of stilted family reunions linked by reoccurring motifs. Not one of Jarmusch’s most memorable and I did wonder how the hell this won the Golden Lion. Really felt that storage unit scene though. #filmsky

#LFF THE SECRET AGENT - A film full of sharks. Took a while to get into this but once it gains focus it doesn’t let up. Like a weird relation to I’m Still Here. Evocative production design & some brilliant looking characters in the cast. Loved its love of cinemas too. Glad that kid got to watch Jaws

#LFF THE VOICE OF HIND RAJAB - This docu-drama is a harrowing watch as expected. One tragic story among thousands, the final scenes are incredibly powerful. #filmsky
