📷 Pirita Velodrome

The Pirita Velodrome is a velodrome and football stadium located in Tallinn, which was opened in 1969. Since 2017, the track has been closed for competitions because it has deteriorated and no longer meets safety standards.

Construction of the track began in 1955. In the first stage, a huge amount of sand was brought to the open area near Rummu curve until the first banked turns were completed. Several cyclists and activists helped with the work. In 1961, construction was suspended and eventually halted, as the already limited construction equipment was needed elsewhere.
According to the original design, the curves were supposed to have a 15-degree incline; had that plan been followed, the current track would be unusable today. The main opponent of the old design was track specialist Avo Nurm, who aspired to break the Soviet Union’s 4 km record—bringing it under five minutes—on the Tallinn track. However, his dream went unfulfilled due to his untimely death.
When construction resumed in 1966, it was based on a new, modern design, which specified a 34-degree bank for the curves. In August 1967, a director was appointed for the track—active athlete Eduard Mirski. He succeeded in properly restarting the construction work and simultaneously began preparing track cyclists. A year later, while still under construction, the facility gained legal status.
On December 10, 1969, the Kalev Tallinn Cycling Sports School of the Voluntary Sports Society Kalev began operating at the velodrome.

The photo series depicts the lonely fate of an old sports complex left to the mercy of oblivion. The velodrome’s former main building and the track running in front of it.

Axis of silence

📷 Linnahall area

#estonia #tallinn #abonded #soviet #urban #landscape #architecture #photography
Photographed near Linnahall, this image captures the remnants of the Soviet era - relics slowly consumed by time and the sea. The once -industrial structure, rusting and fragile, stands alone in the calm water, a quiet monument to an age when humanity sought to control both nature and destiny. The stones along the shore and the stillness of the sea form a meditative contrast to the harshness of the past. Here, history breathes through silence - iron and water, man and time, united in a single rhythm.

Sorri aga omakohus olekski neile ainuke õiglane kohtupidamise viis.

Baltijaam —> Maleva mäluauguekspress on Unesco maailmapärandi kandidaat kindlasti. Mul need näod juba peas, kes trammide õhukvaliteedi eest igapäevaselt hoolitsevad.

Whispers of snow

📷 Old town

#estonia #tallinn #medieval #historic #urban #landscape #architecture #photography
Amid a fierce snowstorm, the narrow streets of Tallinn’s Old Town transform into a quiet dreamscape. The snowfall softens the centuries - old facades, while the warm glow of streetlights and a lone Christmas tree offer a fragile warmth against the cold night. The footprints in the snow trace fleeting human presence - moments passing through a city that feels timeless and still.

📷 Old town

#estonia #tallinn #medieval #urban #landscape #architecture #photography
Rising solemnly against a cloud-streaked sky, the medieval towers of Tallinn’s Old Town stand as silent witnesses to centuries of history. Captured in timeless monochrome, the image reveals the fortress walls’ enduring strength and quiet melancholy. The interplay of shadow and light guides the viewer along the stone expanse, evoking both protection and isolation.
