Medal of Valor 🎖️

Officers Javier, Urban, and Black are Best of the Badge honorees after responding to an active assailant call at a Las Vegas Athletic Club. When the armed suspect exited toward officers, they acted immediately and neutralized the threat. Three were injured, and one life was lost.

Medal of Honor 🎖️

Officers William Kearnes and Theodore Schaefer are this week’s final Best of the Badge honorees. On Jan. 26, 2025, they grabbed a distressed person attempting to jump from a third-floor ledge and pulled them to safety, putting their own lives on the line.

Ofcs. Jimmy Sarkissian Sarnani, Travis Noone, and Marcos Fitzpatrick are Best of the Badge honorees. Responding to a report of armed suspects, they heard screams and gunfire, breached the door, rescued victims and children, and provided life-saving aid.

Ofc. Robert Frank is a Best of the Badge honoree for life-saving action. After stopping a vehicle catching fire, Frank chased it down, used a fire extinguisher, and pulled the intoxicated driver to safety just before the car was fully engulfed. Swift action made all the difference.

Best of the Badge honors Officers Alfredo Ramirez and Cruz Littlefield 🎖️

Ofcs. responded to a call from a subject making disturbing statements to dispatch while holding a victim hostage with a weapon. Ramirez and Littlefield breached a window, stopped the threat, and saved the victim’s life.

Medal of Honor 🎖️

Unable to enter, ofcs. heard an altercation with a victim inside an apartment. Ofcs. Bermejo, Gonzalez, and Peralta made entry and took the suspect into custody. Doctors later said the victim’s injuries were life-threatening and that their swift action may have saved her life.

Kids in protective custody spent the day choosing toys, warm clothes, and enjoying smiles all around.

Preservation of Live 💙

Another Best of the Badge: six officers are honored for stopping an armed man threatening neighbors and drivers. After he ignored commands and raised fears of taking hostages, officers acted, deploying a K9 to safely take him into custody. No civilians or officers were hurt.

Unit Medal of Valor 🎖️

Honoring 5 officers who handled a critical domestic violence call. They entered with a plan to save lives and de-escalate, rescuing two juveniles as containment officers secured the area. With threats rising, SWAT was called. After 9 hours, the suspect surrendered.

Honoring Officers Javier and Black, who saved a distressed person on an overpass. As the individual lost balance, they lunged in and grabbed their wrists. Black held the subject’s weight until Javier secured the second wrist. They pulled the person to safety and rendered aid.

From last week's report, we have already seen an increase in traffic fatalities. We are now up to 153. These accidents are preventable and we need your help to stop this number from growing.

Unit Medal of Valor 🎖️

Honoring 24 Best of the Badge officers who acted during the UNLV tragedy, arriving within minutes, clearing floors as people sheltered, and aiding a wounded victim. Other officers moved toward gunfire, where UNLV detectives stopped the suspect. LVMPD then secured the scene!

A Calling to Serve!

Officer Caylynn Punzalan Decastro, inspired by her father’s LVMPD service, followed her calling into law enforcement. With a heart for community and jiu-jitsu training behind her, she enters field training eager to learn, grow, and help keep Las Vegas safe.
