Hey, as a librarian I have to tell you

You don't have to finish a book that doesn't interest you. Life's too short for that. Not your jam? You have my permission to move on to the next book.
This week has been about reconnecting, strategising & strengthening solidarity
.What a great space to meet & interrogate the moment we are in and reimagine a violence free world for women, girls and gender diverse people & the continuous work required to get there.

Patriarchy uses attention as a reward for those it anoints as worthy: The white. The thin. The cisgender. The feminine. The able-bodied. What if we commanded, seized, and created attention instead of waited to be “paid” attention?

FEMINIST GIANT Daily Dose: 90 www.feministgiant.com/p/daily-dose...
Text: Patriarchy uses attention as a reward for those it anoints as worthy: The white. The thin. The cisgender. The feminine. The able-bodied. When we say “pay attention,” we should be cognizant of the aspect of reward at play. Patriarchy pays attention to those who fall within its conventional notions of beauty. The converse is also true. By withholding attention, by not “paying” it, patriarchy punishes. What would the world look like if we did not wait to be anointed worthy of attention according to patriarchy’s standards? What if we commanded, seized, and created attention instead of waited to be “paid” attention?
"The insistence of seeking a liberated Africa in the masculine has left a gendered lacuna of potentiality. 'Liberation is a man'...but for a fuller emancipation, ' freedom is a woman' ".
"We want to live in a world where no woman dies sad...the world's create by patriarchy leave us bereft."
On African feminist knowledge making;
"Our doing, not just our writing, constitutes intellectual engagement."
