Busy pricing books for our next local studies booksale, which will be on Saturday 11th October 1-4pm on the third floor of Cambridge Central Library. We'll have old and new books, maps and prints available - come and grab a bargain.

'Library work puts the librarian in touch with every human interest ... the profession on which all other professions and occupations depend' Love this old ALA graphic spotted on LinkedIn, anyone have a year for it?

Never ask a librarian a question, unless you want a very thorough answer. 📚📚📚 #SearchEngineWithAHeart

Great to be a guest of @goodthingsfdn.bsky.social at @houseoflords.parliament.uk giving me an opportunity to wax lyrical about delivering digital inclusion through libraries.

You’re admiring Jonathan Bailey’s slutty little glasses when you remember you haven’t had an eye test for at least two years. Suddenly, the sexiest thing you can do is call your optician and book one in.
Jonathan Bailey walks across a field of really long, very green grass as the character Dr Henry Loomis in Jurassic World Rebirth. His arms are outstretched, and he has a huge grin across his face. He’s wearing dainty, wire-thin, hexagonal frames, which accentuate his boyish charm. He’s wearing a checked shirt, beige gilet and beige cargo trousers – all of which are covered in mud. Somehow, and probably not at all on purpose of course, his muddy clothes make his perfectly clean, slutty little glasses stand out more. A couple of people mill around behind him and smoke billows in the background.

That does look mighty impressive. 11 out of 10.

This week, #KidsBooksFriday is about epic series recommendations! So I'm recommending Diana Wynne Jones's Chrestomanci books. Perfect if you want magic, alternate worlds & some of the best writing EVER. The first one is Charmed Life; once I read it, I couldn't stop until I'd read them all! #KidLitUK
Graphic showing the covers of all seven of Diana Wynne Jones's Chrestomanci books: Charmed Life, The Magicians Of Caprona, Witch Week, The Lives Of Christopher Chant, Mixed Magic, Conrad's Fate and The Pinhoe Egg. (Though personally, I would read The Lives Of Christopher Chant after Charmed Life and before The Magicians Of Caprona!)

Excellent to be representing @librariesconnected.bsky.social at the launch of this important charter. A crucial step in delivering digital inclusion for all.

An excellent day learning about MDLS. Key takeaway for me was "meet people where THEY are" on using digital, and engage. www.goodthingsfoundation.org/policy-and-r...

Will you be in Huntingdon on Saturday? Join us at 1.00 for a talk on the photographic firm of Maddison & Hinde, established in the 1850s, then view a selection of photos from the collection. Free! Booking details here www.library.live/calendar/loc...
A studio portrait showing four generations of the Tysoe family, consisting of three men and one child. The photograph is listed in the Maddison & Hinde order book, and can thus be dated to 1898. David Cozens, in his book "Huntingdon A Pictorial History" believed the family may have lived in Hartford Road, Huntingdon. Doc ref HA WH2/70
