I think that is more of a boutade than true, although younger people grew with Wings. And I think it comes from a line in a film. I can offer my experience: in 1982 (I was 12), when “Ebony and Ivory” was in the charts, I knew that Paul was in The Beatles but I had never heard of Wings.
“Press to Play” is an album full of interesting sounds, including guitars. Psul, Eric Stewart, Carlos Alomar and Pete Townshend are all featured. Tons of details in the book “Press to Play: That Unmistakable 80s Sound”!
