I advocate we push back on all extremism (left/right/other) and reflect on the systems that foster radicalization. In this US study of domestic extremism, the data shows extremist events are primarily race based (49%) or right wing based (28%) but there is left wing extremist violence as well (8%).
Left wing extremism is a lot lower than right but still exists. This study of domestic extremism from 2015-2019 showed 7 events out of 85 (8.2%) to be from the left. I suggest we’d be more effective pushing back on right wing extremism by pushing back on it all.

Let’s put aside the heavy topics for a minute and celebrate of furry or feathered friends. Here’s my Bailey girl on her birthday. And yes she is a princess!
It’s important to adjust your beliefs to provable data instead of adjusting data to fit your belief. Right wing extremism has been more prevalent and more destructive as this chart from a Washington Post article shows. But there is left wing extremism and we need to be able to denounce it as well.
Left wing vs Right wing has devolved into Left Wing extremists vs Right Wing extremists. Instead of demonizing each other, it’s time to denounce extremism in all its forms. It’s time to take the best of left AND right and use the tools as needed depending on the global forces shaping society.
Canada should not yield any ground to the White Nationalist movement. No public permits, no rental of private facilities without protests. Active defence.
It’s bad enough having fascists in the US, but Canada needs to remain free in our support of diversity.

A Labour Day weekend rally in Ontario’s Niagara Region by the self-described “Canadian men's nationalist” group Second Sons is prompting concerns about rising anti-immigrant sentiment.

Canada lost a legend today. Thank you for all you did. You will be remembered!
In politics, Ken Dryden served as MP from 2004-2011. As Minister for Social Development negotiated a federal child care program with all 10 provinces. Unfortunately that program was cancelled by the Steven Harper Conservatives in 2006 and only became a reality in 2021 under the Trudeau Liberals.
He stood larger than life leaning on his goalie stick. I grew up in Toronto but my dad was a Habs fan from Kingston. We happily watched both teams but the talent in the 1970s rested in Montreal where Ken Dryden dominated in net for the Habs leading to 6 Stanley Cups in the decade.
It was ~3pm on September 28, 1972. I was 6yrs old sitting in the gymnasium with the rest of my school watching Game 8 of the Summit Series on an old black & white TV high up on the rolling TV stand. The day is etched in my memory. Ken Dryden kept us in the game to enable the famous winning goal.
Following all. Here’s a pic of my pup in exchange.
With cooler nights it’s perfect for S’mores! #autumnvibes
6/ Unfortunately, ibuprofen/naproxen have PROVEN link with birth defects. 2nd consider not taking any? Untreated fever/pain can also increase the risk of birth defects. So the best approach is for a pregnant woman to consult with her own doctor. And let scientists continue the work.
5/ In the question of acetaminophen causing autism, the data is inconclusive. There are published studies showing an association and published studies showing none. So what do we do? 1st look at alternatives..

4/ The next level is more thorough with a “Literature Review” of lower tier studies, or an Observational study, and then the top tier are “Randomized Control Trials”, or a Meta Analysis across all mid-tier studies.

3/ So what does the science say? It’s important to know the different types of studies involved as not all studies hold the same weight. Initial studies are usually based on small base sizes, animal studies or individual reported cases.

2/ Most had expected him to try and link autism to vaccines (hoped for by anti-vaxxers) but he has dropped trial messaging of linking the rise to women taking acetaminophen (paracetamol in Europe) during pregnancy.

🔬Science Saturday. With a conspiracy theorist as US Secretary of Health about to announce findings on the cause of the rise in autism in the US, it’s going to be important for real health care experts and scientists to step forward in support of the science over conspiracy.

Canada has a patriotism issue among Conservative voters. Nearly 30% have a favourable opinion of Donald Trump. 21% support Canada being the 51st State and a whooping 43% support Alberta separation. These are all significantly higher than progressive voters. #Canpoli
All right all right! I’m up already…
Sunday thoughts: MAGA Evangelicals rage about the Cracker Barrel logo redesign that it might as well be in rainbow colours. It would be nice if they focused their rage on areas Jesus would actually rage about: stripping Medicaid benefits, the genocide in Gaza, the Epstein files…
