Orts is the one rider who always looks exactly how I remember CX racing feels.
Ant Maccrossen (did the CX calls last year for UK / Canada Eurosport) has the most spot on description of Orts’ pain faces: “and here comes Felipe Orts, absolutely chewing wasps…”
he upgraded early into seniors as well, paving the way for riders like Wout, Mathieu, Fem, Puck and Thibau who did the same.
oh god I’m just so sad. he’s been a perennial favorite of mine for as long as I’ve been able to watch televised cross
well that sucks.

monday can fucking get in the bin
I mean certainly they could but it might have come off as a tiny bit disrespectful to Simon especially since he’s a new rider on the team and Wout’s had many years of limelight from Visma, I couldn’t see Wout going for that either knowing the kind of teammate he is
said farewell today to the best cat I’ve ever had, my heart pet. Go with grace Pixel, 19 years was a good run.
my favorite part about the whole thing was Bart and Olav fucking around on the radio and poking fun at the DSs
I think they know him very well and if they didn’t trust him they wouldn’t deliberately set satellite Wout up for him on Finestre :)

Simon is quite awkward with media and doesn’t enjoy the spotlight as much as eg Wout. I’d go as far as to suggest Visma lets him be because he doesn’t like publicity
I don’t get how people call 2025 Giro boring when we had Mads Pedersen spectacle, UAE’s tactical own goals even in Week 1, Ayuso’s meltdowns and the GT debut of new young talent IDT. I grant I am biased because I am a torito fan but still. I remember lots of fun stages.
Love these. VAMberg holds a special place in my heart for Lars van der Haar winning CX Euros there a few years back. he has been one of my favorites in CX for ages.
which is wild considering Jalabert almost entirely changed his focus from bunch sprints to barodeur - roleur type riding after breaking his face at Armentieres in 1994.
here’s a good comparison of MvdP roughly 10 years apart in similar positions in de Kuil - he looked like a skinny teenager back in the day
yes there were a couple social media captures of the little Wouthi in the bus with all the bull stuffies.

not pictured: skoda lynx stuffie from Jonas’ day in green
Me: “oh hey it’s nice out, let’s take the cat for a walk”

suddenly:

*many sirens*

*800 coyotes on open space two blocks away start yipping*

*every dog in a 2km radius starts barking and howling*

*cat is now under the bed*
y’all i just added fresh grated nutmeg to a spinach bacon frittata and I may just need to revisit the notion I peaked in high school because holy shit
it implies indentured servitude and is illegal as hell in every progressive contract law governed state I’m aware of
this rant brought to you by the absolutely fucktangular state of the ERP systems data integrity at my place of employment
my siblings in christ if you work in any global/international business media systems whatever for the love of gods little green apples USE ISO STANDARD DATE FORMATS i dun wanna be sat here tryna figure out if you mean 2 september or 9 february argh
the fans LOVE Felipe, he’s such a character. Best pain faces in cycling!

what’s charming me recently is Laurens Sweeck and his passel of green-and-white Crelan ducklings who all played such a perfect game of rope-a-dope on Michael Vanthourenhout last week (and Felipe helped there too!)
I just have zero interest in Zwift racing and the interface does exactly nothing for me
one of several reasons I switched to Rouvy…

also been considering getting a Kickr Bike Pro if only to attempt to hack the controls to play Destiny whilst on the trainer
Les Gets and Nove Mesto were also thrillers
several of the men’s races have been down to the wire wars, with the latest one being Lake Placid- both short track and XCO had 5-8 dudes that could win it within the last lap or even half lap
the UCI has been posting complete videos of the world cup XCO / XCC races and they have been absolutely fantastic this season unless you’ve already watched them? or have zero interest in XC MTB despite that it’s been gravitating more and more towards a cyclocross style format.
