I talk a bit about politics, but mostly this is going to be books, Doctor Who, and a little smattering of Brentford FC. My YouTube Channels: https://www.youtube.com/@Lokster71 https://www.youtube.com/@LoksterWho

My parents enjoyed the series almost as much as I did but weren't going to be obsessive about it. Unlike me.
I need to watch more Danny Glover films. I think this and Lethal Weapon don't really do him justice. He's clearly one of the better actors to do an 80s/90s action franchise.
I'm going to say it. I think Predator 2 is better than Predator. Danny Glover is such a solid lead. Predator is more quotable but Predator 2 is top notch.
Watching Predator 2 for the first time. Let’s see how this one goes.

Things I learned from Eric: the character of Helen appears as an ambiguous figure in Christopher Marlowe's version of Faust. It is where the famous line, 'was this the face that launched a thousand ships...' comes from. 💙📚 #booksky #Discworld #terrypratchett

Having re-listened you actually missed it. If you'd seen it I suspect you'd have been quite angry about it. It is genuinely - even by the standards of the time - egregiously sexist.
Watching the Hammer version of The Hound of the Baskervilles. Which, although it isn’t particularly faithful to the story is probably the most fun version that I’ve seen.
Also totally unhinged a friend of mine wrote an article which means I think Time Lords can fly. (And Romana II was being serious when she said 'shall we fly' in City of Death.)
All Doctor Who looks better in black and white.
I want to know if it is named after the Dante poem or the band.
Looking for work and there seem to be a chunk of companies looking for Business Development people who claim to be companies helping clients with 'personal development' but who when you look in detail seem to just be looking for people to join a sort of pyramid scheme.
I'm particularly keen to hear @lizbethmyles.bsky.social's reaction to the outrageous shot that introduces us to Fenella Fielding's character.
I'm revisiting @paulcornell.bsky.social and @lizbethmyles.bsky.social's 'Hammer House of Podcast'. I'm listening to 'The Abominable Snowman' episode as I watched the film yesterday. Then I'm going to re-listen to 'The Old Dark House' episode, which I watched tonight.
I'm glad you both seem to like The Abominable Snowman as much as I did. It's not one you hear a lot about.
Books changed as you change. So, never assume a book you didn't like will remain a book you didn't like. Re-read.
I also realised, thanks to @johnrain.co.uk & @tobyhadoke.bsky.social on Smershpod that I somehow skipped Quatermass 2 on my Hammer watch along. I skipped ahead to 'The Old Dark House' (1963) because I stumbled across it on YouTube and thought 'sod it, I'll watch this now before it gets taken down.'

Well, 'The Old Dark House' (1963) was fun. Sort of Scooby Doo meets Carry on Screaming. It doesn't have a great deal in common with the 1932 version, which features some terrible acting but a great Karloff performance. What a cast though.
Well done letting one of your journalists take advantage of a woman who was used and abused when she was alive. Now she’s dead, of course, you don’t need to even pretend to ask for consent.
I’m watching’The Old Dark House’ (1963) could you have cast a better selection of British character actors in a film. But that shot of Fenella Fielding coming down the stairs is outrageous.
I think how weird that must have been. I mean wouldn't it have taken you back to that event. Or as an actor do you just shrug it off like any other part. See also Richard Todd playing his commanding officer in 'The Longest Day' and having another actor play Richard Todd. 2/2
Thinking about the film 'Sink The Bismarck' - as you do - and I'm reminded that Esmond Knight plays the Captain of the HMS Prince of Wales. In reality he was gunnery officer on that ship in the actual battle that saw the sinking of the Bismarck and was blinded. 1/2 Cont...
More people should read ‘A Dance to the Music of Time’, which does Proust better than Proust.
Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat
Is burned into my memory as the naval officer who shouts 'Shoot' in Sink The Bismarck. 3/3
