Amazing how Kadare fleshes out the Ottomons. How they eat, they dream, how they plan and rage war. The Albanian’s are written with no characters, only chronicling their diligence. For anyone curious as to how Ottoman siege war functioned and the perils of a huge army vs a formidable Albanian castle.

Reading a bunch of Albanian fiction (specifically trilogies about Ottoman rule) and all the bad guys look like this in my canon because of his incredible art. Thank you for the food.

Taking a break because I am shaking with fear but this is the correct order to read terrifying, horror driven historical fiction. This is hard mode terror, long drawn out existential historical pain. Nothing gratuitous, only dread of the inevitable events that unfold. #ismailkadare #booksky

Kudos to me who slogged through the most depressing book I’ve ever read. Doesn’t help I read the last in the trilogy first, made this one ever more bleak. Chronicles the trickle in of Turkish invasion into Albania in the 1300s. Great author, horrifying book.

Taking two vaccines in one day completely wiped my Saturday off the planet. I feel absolutely FINE today but yesterday was like a pain curse. 😖 I’m happy it’s over and I can have my body back.

After 14 years of daily smoking I finally quit. I don’t even have the desire anymore, I just want to move forward being healthy. It’s a huge mountain I’ve been climbing and finally I’m over the peak and on my way home to recovery.❤️🩹

Hoya griffithii Splash finally flowered after a year of rapid growth. Scents around Midnight to 2 AM so the house smells like tropical flowers in the dark.

Super grateful to wife and friends who included vegan dishes into Thanksgiving. We have a toddler in our midst and it’s kind of a relief to be around found family. Missed the holiday vibe.
