most ''unstable'' here is Adrianne due to having the strongest desire to express and the strongest barriers, Laurie is just pure, spontaneous force with little internal questioning and Jan is good at getting external approval of any kind she clings to

Laurie's confidence stems from an extremely neutral self-image, rather than a heightened one, which I feel is an important distinction. Jan is more ''traditionally confident'' and likes to prove herself, similar to Adrianne, but Adrianne is also self-conscious to paralysis levels
