I agree, which is why choosing to reopen the economy in the autumn when infections were bound to rise was not prioritising them or education, instead it was prioritising people's value merely as economic units. Different choices could have been made.
lizzicollinge.bsky.social
What's even worse is if they'd prioritised things like education and the elderly over reopening the economy during the autumn, it's possible that schools might have been able to open (and Christmas might not have been cancelled!)

The Prime Minister confirmed to me today that he raised the case of my constituent, Jagtar Singh Johal, arbitrarily detained in India for 8 years now, during his meeting with Prime Minister Modi in India.

It's time he is released immediately & returned home to his family in Dumbarton.

Very informative discussion with Gordon Brown and the leading child poverty charities yesterday about the urgent need to lift the 2-child benefit cap.

Doing so would lift half a million children out of poverty.

Great to join so many good colleagues from Birmingham & West Mids on Friday (my birthday!) for a lovely evening.

Big elections across the region in May. Members there want a strong voice, working full-time for them. I gave them my commitment.

Forced to share pins, left open to fraud!

1 in 5 with mental health conditions risk financial abuse by sharing pins as banks don't offer carers cards, 3rd party notifications or controls. We want to change that. Full info www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2025/10...

Still looking for someone, haven't found a single person so far (that I can contact). I have a 46-episode script that I need translated. This would be a paid job!

Completely unrelated to my 2am doomposting but does anyone know an English to Japanese translator, ideally with experience in screenplays?

The ancient ones performed feats of memory, as their culture required them to commit long strings of numbers to their mind palaces.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

I annoyingly forgot about this when I got home after midnight and went on autopilot to make noodles 🤦🏼‍♀️

A productive afternoon before the heads-down parliamentary slog towards Christmas.
On a kitchen side sits a veggie lasagne, a bowl of roasted squash, a bowl and cous cous salad and a little bowl of veg.

Step 1: prove that people eat a little bit more food when it tastes better.

Step 2: reword "tastes better" to "Ultra-processed".

Step 3: published in Cell Metabolism.

This may be the worst nutrition trial I've ever seen.

Subjects got a minimally processed diet or an ultra-processed diet, ostensibly to test the effect of processing.

But the UPF diet was higher in sat fat, sugar, refined grains, & lower in fiber.

What happened?

Another one falls in Kent.

Reform has suspended county councillor Robert Ford after a complaint was made about him by 'several female members of staff.'

The party said that Cllr Ford refused to engage with the complaints process, so he has had the whip removed pending a disciplinary process.
