Are you doing "Non-fiction November"?

I'm not usually a non-fiction reader, but these blew me away:

🐦 Bird by Bird – Anne Lamott

🏃 What I Talk About When I Talk About Running – Murakami

📖 Knife – Salman Rushdie

✉️ Letters to a Young Poet – Rilke

🏚️ Ghost Town Living – Brent Underwood

Mid-month reading progress check for Native American Heritage Month 📚

Just finished The Devil Is a Southpaw, and it was challenging, impressive, and unbelievably rewarding — a fascinating portrait of obsession.

Only eleven vertical spines in my collection 📚
I love their uniqueness, how they choose to go up and down instead of sideways ✨
I'm curious, how many vertical spines do you have on your shelves?

Can you guess which book I selected for my November BoTM? 📦📖

Here’s a hint: “A luminous novel of love, loss, science, and art, that asks if the past can ever be truly revisited, and at what cost?”

I’m looking forward to reading this one!

Remembering Kurt Vonnegut on his bday (Nov 11)

He said: “Laughter and tears are both responses to frustration and exhaustion… I myself prefer to laugh, since there is less cleaning up to do afterward.”

Which is your favorite Vonnegut novel, or which do you plan to read next?

📚 Just finished Shadow Ticket, and wow, what a trip!
➡️ Up next: Tom’s Crossing

Shadow ticket is classic Pynchon chaos, and he’s clearly just having fun. It's a jazzy, Depression-era detective fever dream that’s as playfully strange as it is eerily relevant.

Remembering Albert Camus on his bday (Nov 7th)

Camus didn’t write to escape the world; he wrote to face it. To insist that even in the absurd, there is room for rebellious hope.

“In the depths of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.”

🎂 Remembering Sylvia Plath on her birthday (Oct. 27)

I hit up the Friends of the San Tan Library book sale this weekend and had to do some serious digging, but it paid off-2 books for $2! I hadn't heard of either before (Wyoming Stories by Annie Proulx and Old School by Tobias Wolff), but that's half the fun.

Just discovered the new Folio Society edition of Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow — complete with 7 beautiful illustrations by Manshen Lo and a new intro by Gabrielle Zevin (happy birthday!).

T3 is one of my favorite novels. Anyone else love this one?

🎂 Remembering Ursula K. Le Guin on her birthday! (Oct 21)

"We read books to find out who we are. What other people, real or imaginary, do and think and feel… is an essential guide to our understanding of what we ourselves are and may become."

💀 Spooky month TBR 🎃

October means it’s time to lean into all things dark, chilling, and a little uncanny 👻📚

Some classics, some horror, some apocalyptic mayhem—basically the perfect mix for a haunted October. 👀🍂

Did you know about the IRL Halloween tree at Disneyland?

On the 35th anniversary of Bradbury’s novel, an oak in Frontierland was given a makeover of orange lights and hand-painted jack-o’-lanterns. Bradbury said “I’m glad I’m going to be a permanent part of the spirit of Halloween at Disneyland.”
