So many of my students in my schools were hungry all the time. This was back in the 2000’s. I started own lunch program, free hot soup or beans, as much as they wanted. Out test results went up significantly and the behavioural issues decreased. Schools should have hot lunch free for all.
Excited for another book signing event on Sunday, September 14th @indigospirit.bsky.social #marketmall #yyc 11:00-3:00 pm. So much fun sharing my #historicalfiction with readers, young and older. #courage #heartbreakingrealism of 1900’s #immigration. Time Enough ticks all the boxes!
Time Enough is featured in the Fall 2025 catalogue of the #independentbookpublishersassociation, distributed to stores and libraries across America and Canada. Here I am @owlsnestbooks in #yyc on Saturday, for a great afternoon with readers!
It's just appalling that the government is risking us all with this dangerous political policy. Many people will be limiting travel and social engagements, for fear of catching Covid. We risk even more hospital overwhelm and unnecessary suffering.

So delighted to see this review of the new book by my friend and mentor @richardvancamp.bsky.social ! How wonderful!

I’m canning #bcfruit as I have for fifty years. My grandmother taught me, as her mother (on right) taught her, back in #homesteadingdays. A taste of summer, come winter, but then, it meant survival as described in my #historicalfiction #immigrationsaga Time Enough.

Today in Alberta - August 19: The UCP government reverses its changes to expense disclosure policy. It had removed the requirement that cabinet and senior staff disclose receipts for expenses over $100, and it removed eight years of reports from a public website. It promises to restore the reports.
Nothing like the feeling of checking your own book out of the #publiclibrary. Wrote my first book age 10. #libraries have meant the world to me, always. #publishedauthor is a dream come true! #historicalfiction #immigrationfamilysaga #writinglife
Biggest #bumblebee I’ve seen in my life. #delphiniums and zero pesticides in my garden bring them in. So happy to greet them.

It’s the most amazing feeling, taking my own book out of the #locallibrary. Richard Wagamese said libraries saved his life. Mine too. #publiclibraries are so essential to communities and guardians of knowledge. #freedomtoread matters. I grew up with no books in my home. I cherish libraries.
So delighted to receive this certificate today. The poem was amongst the top 100 of 500 worldwide entries for this Australian publication. They also sent me a personal commendation letter. Holy cow! What a classy organization! I’ll try again this year.
Another great day of #booksigning @chaptersindigo.bsky.social in #yyc. Meeting such wonderful people and the staff are excellent. Next week: Red Deer July 17, St Albert July 19, Westside Chapters Edmonton July 20! Whew! Should be fun!
Watching Outrageous on Britbox will reveal how easily it happened.
So true! And I have so little time to write, now. I’ll get there. Poems are waking me up at night again now!😊
Excited to share latest news on my #historicalfictionnovel Time Enough: Runner-up in @sanfranciscobookfestival2025; featured on @theseaboardreview.ca; #book-signing tour of #alberta going great @chaptersindigo.bsky.social from #lethbridge to #StAlbert. Busy and fun!
Old friends and new at #booksigning in #canmore. This #canadianhistoricalfiction was purchased by #US, #UK and #canadian customers over beautiful conversations about #isleofman, #ancestors, #history and #hope. Already 300+ sold in 4 months and going strong! #TimeEnough #familysaga #resiliency
It’s also hard work, though. You get to a point where you’re confused and feel you can’t go on. Only way through? Keep writing!
Visited #nationalhistoricsite #ssmoyie in #kaslo, best-preserved in the world, like paddlewheelers on the #inlandwaterways of #michigan 1900’s I described in #TimeEnough! Show reality of the workers who provided luxury travel, even then. I felt like I was walking in my book.
Much-needed rain for our parched prairies. Only a sprinkle out of these beauties, though. #protectourwater

Someone is waiting for you..
Don’t you just love pansies? Pensées. Thoughts. What are your thoughts? Mine are that flowers are incredible!
Always wonderful to connect with readers of #historicalfiction when presenting my #novel Time Enough. The backstory of #history, #familyimmigration from #isleofman is compelling, moving and relevant today. #publiclibraries are hubs of learning and engagement.
