In some of the world's worst timing, my graphic novel came out today. 3.5 years of hard work to bring one of my scripts to life and it turned out beautifully. Please consider buying a copy for the kids in your life.
Peacing out of social media for the next while for time with my family. I'll be back in time for Screenpit at the end of the year!

My latest feature is on the list:
OPULENCE (mockumentary feature): A group of popular travel vloggers fight for the most views when they all embark on the inaugural sailing of the largest cruise ship in the world.

Using this brief, glorious warm weather to harvest the rest of my kale before it gets buried again. The kids have decided it's their favorite pizza topping and have burned through the previous mountain I had stored in the freezer.

I've read 40 peer scripts this year and I must say it was definitely the year of the comedy. So many great scripts, so I'm going to share my very favorites in a 🧵

It's rare when such big parts of my identity intersect like this, but @himymcraig.bsky.social hilarious novel about the impossible tasks of both special needs parenting AND making a movie really made me feel seen in a way that's never properly represented. I'm sure a lot of you can relate.

For screenwriters, December is like an Advent calendar full of daily rejection emails from companies that waited all year to get back to you.

My daughter and I may have overfed the backyard squirrels. Mama Potato is certainly living up to her name!

Writing session done, now part 2 of my glorious day off.

For the first time in forever I have a day off, my husband is in the office and my kids are both in school. Even the cats are being quiet. I'm on the flying draft of a feature and everything is clicking together. There's no better feeling.

MAYFLY by @coiledmortal.bsky.social made me laugh so hard. An Airplane style sex comedy about the battle between porn stars and sexy aliens, I loved every moment of this breath of fresh air. The world is hard, but this script is full of the right kind of hard.

Kind of obsessed with the daily stories of food heists by my sister's tuxedo cat so we're making Scrumplestiltskin in the graphic novel version of PRESENT a tuxedo cat too.

Maybe anyone who isn't struggling right now but doesn't need notes right now could buy some future notes or gift some to a writer they admire?

I got some good writing done this weekend, and tomorrow I'm going to my friend's house for coffee and homemade Christmas cookies. Sometimes you just have to celebrate the smallest wins.

I just got my 'unfortunately' email from Sundance. Still, I'm proud to have made it this far. This one is very Canadian, and I manifest that it will premiere at TIFF some day.

Other false start. Draft 1, realized as it was quickly becoming a sex comedy, having a 10 year old protagonist would NOT work. Draft 2 from the mom's POV, but felt like I was telling 2 stories. Figuring out who I want to centre in draft 3 is another 2026 problem. #scriptsky #firstpagefriday x2

False starts... wrote the first draft of this as a feature, but decided to adapt it to an actual musical with some original songs so that's going to be a 2026 project..

After 1 month + of back to back sick kids home from school, they were finally healthy at the same time and I was looking up movie times for this weekend. The school just called. Sick kid.

At my daughter's high school band concert last night and I'm suddenly imagining the scenes I'm going to insert one of the songs she's playing into because it's public domain and perfect for one of my indie movies. We never stop, do we?

Having a really rough year too, so can't afford him at the moment, but also intending to hire him the second I can because so many friends swear by his amazing feedback.
The good: I've been wearing "producer hat" more lately.

The bad: pro bono producer work means no income. And so, I could use your help!

I used to go to the bar with my friends. Today we went to Costco and got flu shots, then ate pizza.

Throwback to the time I stole a bunch of flyers from around campus, ripped them into tiny pieces and made my dorm room into a giant mural.
