A banner version of the cover of Iron Spirit by Linn Foster. A young woman stands with her back to the viewer, looking over her shoulder. A rifle is slung across her shoulder. A fox made of neon cyan fire stands in front of her, while she holds a flame of the same color. (Art by Russell Showalter.)

Momo is DMing because it's her FAVORITE thing in the world. Key wants to be the murder hobo and Bell keeps stopping him because they've been shafted into the party mom position. Tae is making sure the snacks are always filled as an excuse to get up and leave the table once in a while.

Your characters are playing in a DnD campaign! Who’s DMing, who’s one second from murder hoboing, who’s having to be party mom, and who’s making sure there’s enough snacks? #WritingPrompt

I ended up looking through a bunch of the art I've commissioned or been gifted for my current and upcoming books and getting very sentimental over it. I just love all my stories so much and seeing all this art for them makes me so happy.

I recently updated as well because Final Fantasy XIV said they were going to stop supporting Win10 and I was used to using 11 at work already. I miss having my taskbar on the top of my screen though. 😭

For Bell I've chosen 'Love Somebody' by Maroon 5. They want to be on love so much, with someone who loves them back.

For Tae I've chosen 'Romantic' by Stanaj. Love isn't something he's very familiar with at first, but he gets there.

I actually struggled a little with this one, but settled on 'Accidentally in Love' by Counting Crows. Despite how much they wanted love, Bell wasn't looking for it when they met Tae, but stumbled backwards into it anyway.

I absolutely make playlists for WIPs and characters. I don't like writing without music. (I don't like doing a lot without music tbh.) BYMMS's playlist is currently 173 songs/10.5 hours long. It's a mix of plot songs, character songs, and songs the characters would listen to.

#LateNightWrite Welcome back! I’m in a playlist mood tonight and about to make it everyone’s problem! Do you often make playlists for your WIPs or characters? (spoiler: if you don't, you're about to!)

I'm late but hello! I'm Linn, & my WIP is Between You, Me, & the Moonlit Sea (which was supposed to be finished by now but such is life.) Here's the pitch: Bell is a gumiho who only wants one thing: true love-- & they might've found it. The problem? They want to kill & eat him too.

A "trope map" for Linn Silver's novel, Between You, Me, and the Moonlit Sea. It says: genderfluid main character, aro-pan love interest, queer side cast, romantic rival, strangers to friends to lovers, seaside city, family drama, shapeshifters, monstrous appetites, nonhuman/human relationship, fox politics, music appreciation, and more. (Art by @cryling.)

The question is what do I do with these messed up copies....
linnfoster.com
But hey, I learned from both of them. I think I need to buy additional clamps for the book press and then try again with only taping the spine like I did the first one. So will shop around for those and try this again when I get them.
linnfoster.com
First 2 attempts at sprayed edges. I did 2 layers on the 1st one & that was a mistake. It caused a slight bleed onto the cover & inner pages. I also might not've clamped it enough. 2nd try I taped the entire cover. Turned out great but the tape ripped the inside of the cover. ): So 2 ruined copies.

I suppose the main color is yellow, and the vibe is 'clear summer day.' (;

I got another book cover today and I mocked up the ebook versions of it. I'm soooo excited to show it, but alas. Going to be a few months before this one is unleashed to the public.

The suffering existence of getting covers far ahead of time.

Digital art piece with a headshot of a dark grey canine that is holding a piece of paper scroll in its mouth. The scroll has trans flag colors and has a text "Always been here" written on it. The background is reddish brown and doesn't have any details. The canine looks annoyed or/and determined.

Kelly knows the world is fucked, but she's never known another one, so she makes the best of what she has. She doesn't LIKE it, but she finds the joy of it where she can. Her brother is much the same way. That being said, they both know it can be much better, and they're determined to make it so.

My spray paint arrived. 👀 I have some work to get done before I can play with it, but soon, soon I will have some sprayed edges.

The first part of yesterday was pretty bad, but my spouse and I managed to turn it around once we got to leave work, and we had a pretty nice evening, so overall not a terrible anniversary.
linnfoster.com
So far only Kelly in Iron Spirit has a sib, her big brother Ken. He's very vital to the story, which might not've happened without him. Ken is a serious but caring guy who wants to protect his sister but also understands that they have a very dangerous job to do. He's dedicated to it above all else.

Today has been pretty awful for both me and my spouse-- which really sucks because it's our 5 year wedding anniversary heh.

The homogenisation and consolidation of buisinesses and brands has led to the erosion of the midlist, the indie movie or band or comic. There's a real sense of "I'll only try media that's already popular / famous," and I'm begging you to look for the weird shit, the experimental, the niche.

A picture of FAMILIAR, a book with a red cover and while text with a black droplet that reads "An Occult Misadventure" along the top by the spilled coffee cup.

The background features a black tray on a black blanket with star lights, a fake plant, and a stack of books along the wall. Familiar (An Occult Misadventure) by Cara Nox—a book with a spilled coffee cup on a small black portion, pouring out red and filling the red of the cover with the title that looks like vampire teeth, complete with a black blood drop—sits in the center of the image. It’s surrounded by tropes, rep, and teasers on a black background. Clockwise, it reads: errand boy for vampire hunters, awkward gay mc x goth bi li, coffee shop meet-cute turned disaster, mistakes™ were made, hunters with ulterior motives, don't be suspicious, chaotic first person narration, vampires, werewolves, & witches. At the bottom, it reads: Familiar, Urban Fantasy, caranox.com/familiar

Three step process:
1. Take a break and don't write at all for a day or two. It's okay to rest, we all need it.
2. Do a hobby that brings you joy but isn't writing. Draw, read, play a game.
3. Reread your own work to get inspired and also get back up to speed on where you were.

My 1st book took me multiple years & 4 multi-draft rewrites, & I went to college for writing & got a whole degree before finishing the final draft. I've learned A Lot since then. Right now I'm getting about a book a year, but I hope to do 2-3 next year, & keep that pace going for a while.

Authors, in the interest of helping readers spot gen ai 'authored' books, how many novels do you publish a year?

I publish one 80-100k+ word (epic fantasy) novel, and I can only do that because I drafted 8 novels before I started publishing any. 📚💙
