I experimented a lot on these, with several different techniques. A bit of insight on the process is in the alt text :3

I hope you like the paintings, I had a lot of fun making them!!

Esther, the character of Linkal, is a humanoid and goat-like being with really pretty long horns and these majestic markings over their eyes. I can’t describe them very well, they’re sort of triangular? Oh and her digigrade legs!! They’re known as a protector of the forest. Linkal gave me a story to understand her character better and I thought a sort of somber painting would be best. After many trees of their forest had been felled, Esther finds a small tree sticking out of the ground like a flame of hope. The clouds are looming above her and darken the world, but this little plant offers light and warmth when even the sun fails to. I really liked this idea and I found that the thylacine brush on Procreate would do it justice wonderfully. It’s one of those brushes that do several parallel brushstrokes in one, so it’s perfect for more textured works. I’ve tried many different poses and environments and blotted out the main shapes with the lasso tool to get a feel for it all. Initially, I started with my tablet set to greyscale but I grew tired of that eventually because I really, really love color contrasts XD

Wing, the character of b19wing, is anthropomorphic and has these really adorable wing hands that I absolutely adore. I’ve asked them for their favorite bird to give me a bit more ideas and so I decided to draw them chilling with a shima enaga (i think that’s how they’re spelled?) chilling on a meadow overlooking a city on a bright day. I had some trouble doing the bounce lighting and let me tell you. I was not familiar with the lasso tool at all before. Lineless styles were always difficult for me but I felt like they would work best. Wing’s squiggly eyes were really difficult for me, so I ended up making them close their eyes instead of risking any jarring style clashes. Yes, I was a coward and chose the safe option XD
Just like with the painting of Esther, I started in greyscale. I actually finished a previous version of this in greyscale, but I ripped it apart with the lasso tool because it just didn’t feel right. Especially because I used the narinder brush for lines. Fun fact: that painting is inside this one because I went over it with the lasso tool to try and rectify all the mistakes I made. I’m really proud of the lighting in this and I’ve learned that I still have to practice reflections a lot
