I flinch as a small Ulthian extends a purple tentacle gripping a silver tube through the haze toward me. Another with an identical tube approaches Gore. I want to knock the tube away or snatch it and jam it into Ranclath’s eyes. I don’t want to be injected with nanites or anything else, harmless or otherwise. The tip of the silver tube opens, revealing a small, sharp needle. I scramble to my feet, sloshing in through the water and backing away.
