Last day in Singapore: my stomach and feet hate me! 😅 It has been fun and I am ready to eat *normal* amounts of food again and be with our cats. We fly home to LA tomorrow.

@lilichin.bsky.social and I went to the Museum of Asian Civilization in Singapore today, where they had a special exhibit called The Art of Asian Games, and found the world's coolest object. Someone needs to write a series about the samurai who had this made.
Here is the museum's description of the object: Tsuba (sword guard) in the form of a go board. Japan, Edo period, 18th century. Bronze, copper, silver. Seigyoko-an Collection.

The Art of Asian Games exhibit at the Museum of Asian Civilizations #Singapore is pretty cool. The whole museum is spectacular.
From a display of books from the 1700s on solving Go problems. Taking photos of incredible looking chess pieces from different cultures and time periods. These are chess figures of Chinese zodiac animals. Sir John Company chess pieces from 18th century India! Indian rulers vs British East India army. One thing I learned today is that Mahjong is not ancient! It started only in the 1800s in South China, and was developed from a card game.

I can't remember what everything was called.... there was buah keluak, achar, fried chicken, Satay, Assam prawn curry... Nyonya kueh (dessert)

Celebrated Thanksgiving after getting off the plane in Singapore at 10pm with chili oil chicken, dumplings, morning glory with shrimp paste, shrimp, and forgetting it was Thanksgiving until we got in bed and looked at the internet.

Today was @nathanrlong.bsky.social and my last full day in Taiwan! We went to Jiufen, a beautiful mountain town, & saw the famous Shifen waterfall. We also caught sight of several free-living Formosan Mountain Dogs (Taiwan village dogs)up in the mountains, which was a treat! 🐕⛰️
In front of one of 2 suspension bridges on the trail to Shifen Waterfall. A fermented red rice vegan meatball - Jiufen specialty. It is like a giant glutinous dumpling. Walking up to the Ai-Mei teahouse in Jiufen - very "Spirited Away" vibes with pricey teas for tourists. So picturesque, so many narrow stairways, and amazing mountaintop views. We go to Jiufen early before loads of tourists arrived.

Taipei day 2: Zhongshan underground Eslite bookstore, massage, Taipei fish market sushi lunch, shaved ice, tea shop, board game cafe, Raohe night market. Our friend Bernie had so much energy. My legs hate me. I need another massage.

Taiwanese breakfast in ximending. Amazing salty soy milk with youtiao. Omelette thingy, fantuan with lots of pork floss, cold milk tea. All of this came to around 5 USD!!!! The national Palace Museum was full of amazing Chinese artifacts and paintings from ancient times. Unfortunately it was hard to see everything clearly because at least 20 tour groups arrived at the same time we did. Ottomi Gelato in Da'An district. I had to try the smoked salmon just because. We ended up getting the Mascarpone Longan and Caramel Macadamia which were good but we were so full already... We waited in line for ages, and the line kept growing. Yongkang Beef Noodles are Michelin starred, and well worth the wait. The broth with the pickled veg 👌🏽 Funniest thing is that the people waiting in front of us were from LA too! And there were some kids taking photos of their noodles with fan images of BTS, lol. That good.
