We recently celebrated spooky season 👻 and the start of sweater weather 🧥 with a fall installment of the new “Hands-On” series. More than 50 attendees joined for a crafternoon of autumnal activities, including pumpkin painting, ghostly garland making, and creating seasonal suncatchers. 🎃

Libraries Associate Dean for Academic Engagement Nicky Agate welcomes attendees to the event with her opening remarks. Vice Provost for Community, Culture and Engagement Dr. Wanda Heading-Grant sat down with Dr. Deborah J. Rogers, Director of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh (CLP), to explore how libraries shape lives: providing space for belonging, tools for empowerment, and access to knowledge that transforms individuals and communities.

The book brings to life the extraordinary travels and experiences of Henry Hornbostel.

“Time Well Spent: An American Architect in Europe, 1983” features reproductions of Hornbostel’s journals and sketchbooks, as well as essays by Torello, Kawaratani, and Aurand.

Attendees applaud the efforts of the team who contributed to the final book, including Torello, Kawaratani, Aurand, Digital Projects Manager Ann Marie Mesco, and Digital Projects & Publishing Specialist Talia Perry.

Sir Thomas Elyot's Latin-English dictionary (1538), was the first book to be titled a "dictionary". It was a pioneering work based on a humanistic approach, introducing many words into English. 📜

DYK...the phrase "mad as a hatter" comes from the late 18th-early 19th centuries when haberdasheries used mercury nitrate. The exposure to this metal over time caused them to develop symptoms making people believe they were mad.

On 9/17, the @cmu.edu community gathered in Hunt Library to celebrate #ConstitutionDay 📜 with a hands-on, drop-in workshop.

Guests crafted their very own pocket-sized U.S. Constitution and the League of Women Voters were on-site to help new PA voters get registered. library.cmu.edu/about/news/2...

Two students use pages from discarded magazines and other craft materials to decorate the covers of their Constitutions.
