OK, before we get to number one (which I'm sure a lot of you smarty pants have figured out) here's the full Necessary Evil 2024 top 40 albums:

Is that news they just made up so they could tell that weak joke?
Is that news they just made up so they could tell that weak joke?
Yes, but he shows that solidarity by reinforcing what many people believe is the natural hierarchy; outting his Dad as benefitting from the exploitation of their labour; and it's patronising to refer to the folksy wisdom of these farmhands.

Reality IS imperfect. But that promo was cringe
Of course I understood what it was meant to convey, he obviously wanted to show unity.

I'm just saying that if you actually think about what it's celebrating, and the system that we're asked to applaud it's pretty gross.
He wasn't working 'alongside them' though, was he? He was the son of the farm owner.

If he'd said "some of my best friends are Mexican" he'd be pillorised, but revealing that his Dad employed Mexican people is somehow a heartwarming liberal message??

Not the flex he thought it was
It's giving "If we deport the Mexicans, who will clean our toilets??"
Am I the only one a bit grossed out by that #Hangman promo?

"I have an affinity with Mexico because my Daddy employed Mexicans on his Tobacco farm"??

Thanks for being so easily exploited as cheap labour? Thank you for helping Daddy cut costs on picking tobacco??
If I walk in on someone on the toilet because they didn't lock the door, why am *I* expected to apologise?
The best rock band of the last 20 years

Amazing. If only someone had written, like, a ranking of every song they’ve ever released? That’d be awesome gig preparation, wouldn’t it?

Feel about Stamer saying immigration has done

“incalculable damage to UK”

Or are they happy to stay members of an overwhelmingly racist Labour Party?

Today was a chance to reset the conversation on migration and community after years of failed policies. We need solutions that foster resilience, belonging, and safety—especially after last summer’s racist riots—not a race to the bottom that throws our communities under the bus.

Restoring control over the immigration system: white paper
The white paper sets out the government's plans to create an immigration system which promotes growth but is controlled and managed.

And You Stole the Sun From My Heart is still a piece of shit. I said to a friend, considering they've played it at enough every one of the 10-15 gigs I've seen them at since 1998, I don't think there's any other song I hate that I've been forced to listen to more times
However...

"The world is full of refugees
They're just like you and just like me"

Is still the worst line the band have ever written. I believed that in 1998, and now I'm an immigration solicitor working with refugees I hate it EVEN MORE!!
I really felt that "Oh you're old I hear you say/But that doesn't mean that I don't care" line for the first time.

Also, Nicky Wire was 29 when that album came out. I'm so old now that my partner being 29 would be problematic
But... seeing it live in Manchester last night, probably for the dozenth time, I think its beauty really resonated with me for the first time. I still don't love it, but it might make #92 next time
I've always resented The Everlasting by The Manics, I always felt attacked by the 'Pathetic acts for a worthless cause' sense of the song, and there are some CLUNKY lyrics. It didn't make the top 100 I wrote
I can see why Reform's win would be disappointing to Labour: they've basically copied all their policies and pandered to their demographic, and people STILL vote for the OG fascists??
How you know the new #CarSeatHeadrest album is a return to form
