ICYMI: Full Flower Moon Band Win The Triffid's 2025 Album Of The Year
Full Flower Moon Band Win The Triffid's 2025 Album Of The Year
Full Flower Moon Band have made it onto the Hero Wall after winning The Triffid’s QLD Album of the Year. * John Collins And The Impact Of The Triffid's Album Of The Year: 'Queensland Keeps Punching Above Its Weight' The Brisbane rockers were announced as the winners of this year’s The Triffid Album of the Year last night (27 November). They were up against a diverse bunch of Queensland acts, which were: Sycco’s Zorb, King Stingray’s For The Dreams, Mallrat’s Light hit my face like a straight right, and Velociraptor’s Computer Future. Full Flower Moon Band were crowned the winners following the release of last year’s Megaflower. Accepting the award, the group – led by the charismatic singer and guitarist Kate “Babyshakes” Dillon – acknowledged the strength of Brisbane’s music scene and thanked their fans for voting for them and getting Megaflower hand-painted onto the Hero Wall. In addition to getting a spot on the wall alongside The Go-Betweens, The Saints, and more, the band have received a $3,800 marketing package from The Music, as well as a rehearsal day in The Triffid’s Live Room. Embedded Content Upon its release, Megaflower debuted at #1 on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart. The band have since received international buzz from American radio station KEXP and BBC Radio—the latter courtesy of Iggy Pop. They’ve also secured a UK/EU deal with Free Trade, launched their own beer with Mountain Goat, and continue to achieve local success while growing their profile overseas. “When you think about Full Flower going 'mega', don’t think harder and heavier,” Dillon commented last year. “Think bigger – in every way. Megaflower explores themes ranging from existential musings (Illegal Things) to human sensuality (Man Hands), with Babyshakes’ distinctive vocals and the band’s dynamic instrumentation piecing the project together. Earlier this year, a clip of the band performing West Side live went viral on social media, catching the attention of international stars such as Jack Black, Sleaford Mods, Noel Fielding, and Cage The Elephant. Dillon told The Music about the energetic track last year, “West Side has always been a track that bridges our last album, Diesel Forever, and into a new era of bigger, bolder production. We worked and re-worked this track, and now it has the essence of a rock song, but structurally it’s unusual. “When I first gave the band chord charts and the ‘rap section’ was written on the page, we all knew we weren’t playing it safe. I love that the first thing audiences heard me sing after two years is, ‘I was hoping motherfucker call me back’. So pick up, Full Flower Moon Band’s on the line.” Embedded Content

ICYMI: Lenny Kravitz Reacts After Fan Pulled Out Four Of His Dreadlocks In Brisbane
Lenny Kravitz Reacts After Fan Pulled Out Four Of His Dreadlocks In Brisbane
Lenny Kravitz’s Brisbane show on Friday night (21 November) took a shocking turn when an over-enthusiastic fan ripped out four of his dreadlocks as he performed. During the encore at his shows, Kravitz traditionally walks through the audience while performing Let Love Rule. It was this moment of the set on Friday when a fan pulled out four of the musician’s dreadlocks. Reacting to the moment, Kravitz addressed fans via a video posted to social media. “So, when I went up to Let Love Rule, a very excited young lady pulled four dreadlocks out of the back of my head,” he said calmly in the video. Kravitz continued, “You know how hard you gotta pull to rip those out of my head? Damn, baby. Anyway, I’m not gonna stop coming out there for Let Love Rule because that’s what we do. That’s our moment together. Brisbane, you’re wild. I love you.” Despite calmly addressing punters, the incident looked like it hurt. You can see footage of the moment below. As Stereogum notes and The Music has previously reported, the incident follows a recent disturbing trend in which fans have grabbed artists in public, including Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande. Lenny Kravitz is currently touring Australia for the first time since 2012; he continues the shows tomorrow night, with dates in Melbourne, Mildura, and the BP Adelaide Grand Final on Saturday, 29 November. He’s joined by special guests Jet on this tour. In a recent interview with The Music, Kravitz opened up about his long-awaited return to Australia and his previously axed tour dates due to COVID-19. “We were supposed to come there a few years ago, unfortunately, when COVID started,” he said. “That cut my Australian tour, so we weren't able to make it on that cycle. And of course, I've been touring now for about two years on this album. So, it was very important to me to get down there, see everybody, and celebrate together.” He continued, “I was pretty much stuck here in the Bahamas for three years. But in that time, I was quite productive, and I made two albums – well, three albums – during that time. Blue Electric Light being the first, and there’s two more. “So that will enable me to continue for the next several years without a break.” Embedded Content Embedded Content

Strictly speaking, a heap of this music is not really shoegaze to me, but is nonetheless very fun.
