Analysis of the Iberian blackout, some very real lessons here when one relies too heavily on renewables without the right tech to stabilise it. The South Australia blackout a few years ago showed this, and steps were taken to add more inertia to their grid.

Spain-Portugal blackouts: what actually happened, and what can Iberia and Europe learn from it?
By analysing minute-by minute data, we can pinpoint the moment where it all went wrong for Spain’s power grid.

A red wattlebird, Anthochaera carunculata, has been hanging out to feed on this lovely Banksia serrata in the backyard. They yell at you when you get too close.

According to the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), 2024 was 1.6C warmer than pre-industrial times, easily beating the previous record year of 2023.

We urgently need to reduce emissions and address climate change by phasing out fossil fuels and shifting to alternative proteins.

It's time for Chris Minns to end barbaric Greyhound Racing in NSW.

NSW already banned greyhound racing once but repealed it after caving to pressure from the industry. It's time for the government to put an end to this cruel industry once and for all.

We're environmentalists, so why do we support nuclear energy?

Because the science is clear - nuclear is one of the safest and cleanest forms of energy available today.

Find out more about why we support nuclear - link below.

To feed about 8 billion humans, we have to have to feed and kill 92 billion land animals a year. If we stop that, we can rewild 3/4 of land used to feed and support those animals and cut back emissions enormously. #relinquish #redirect #restore #govegan #plantbasedtreaty

Another Australian dairy processor going under, this is now 13 in the last 2 years.

The signs are clear: the industry is broken.

At FTA, we provide the tools, resources, and support farmers need to transition out of animal agriculture and into new livelihoods that can thrive in a changing world.

A spikey visitor in the backyard yesterday afternoon. Probably looking for a cool spot in the heat. The #echidna buried himself deep in the ground for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Late at night they had gone, leaving a freshly dug hole under the fence. #wildlife #australia

Watching TV, power goes out. Circuit breaker tripped. Turned off power points, still tripping. Room to room, still tripping (the breaker, not me). Finally found it: a not so old extension cord. Aren't circuit breakers great? No more fuse wire (yes, I'm that old) and no cords catching alight!

Most agricultural land is used for animal-based food production yet provides minimal calories and protein. 77% of agricultural land yields just 18% of calories and 37% of protein. By shifting to plant-based food sources, we could significantly reduce land use and allow for rewilding of vast areas.

From Vegan Australia

Are animals killed in plant production? Yes, but it’s not just vegans eating plants!

Nearly half of the world’s habitable land is used for agriculture, with the vast majority (80%) dedicated to farming animals for meat, dairy and other animal products. 🌏🥩🥛

Our food production is responsible for about a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions and around 15% of Australia's emissions.

To reduce these emissions, what you eat matters more than where your food comes from. Easiest way is to stop eating meat and dairy.
