LAFLA’s Permanency Project has helped over 160 clients apply for lawful permanent residency thanks to UC Irvine School of Law students & Orrick attorneys. At our latest clinic, students assisted 8 clients seeking refuge from global insecurity—guided by LAFLA's expert staff & our pro bono volunteers.
If you applied for FEMA relief and disagree with their decision, you can appeal—and we can help! Join our FEMA Appeals Clinic to get step-by-step guidance on how to file an appeal and understand your rights in the process.

Over 50,000 low-income households in Los Angeles rely on housing vouchers to help cover the city’s soaring cost of living. But now, due to federal budget cuts, Section 8 vouchers will cover 10% less rent—putting even more people at risk of homelessness.
Thank you Community Legal Services for highlighting the value of legal aid and the important work LAFLA and our partner organizations are doing to help protect tenants from illegal price gouging following this year's wildfires in Los Angeles County. youtu.be/EG2sRWw5hRA?...
4/5 We are proud of the progress we have made and the relief we have brought to our communities, but we know we still have tremendous work ahead to ensure the most impacted wildfire survivors have equal access to justice.
3/5 In total, we provided “know your rights” presentations to nearly 1,500 individuals and legal assistance in more than 770 wildfire-related cases, including housing, FEMA appeals, consumer relief and price gouging, benefits, and other wildfire-related support in seven languages.
2/5 Over the past six months, LAFLA has mobilized more than 220 volunteers who contributed nearly 1,000 hours to assist wildfire survivors. Through 37 clinics, workshops, and resource fairs, and by staffing daily FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers for several months, LAFLA offered vital legal support.
1/5 🧵 Today marks six months since wildfires devastated Los Angeles. As our community continues to rebuild and heal, our staff and volunteers have been compassionately supporting survivors navigating complex legal mazes. From here, one thing remains clear: Our communities continue to need us.
Check out LAFLA's 2024 Annual Report—celebrating 95 years of advancing equal access to justice!

Since 1929, LAFLA has remained a bedrock resource through nearly a century of change, continuing to pioneer new ways to bring justice within reach for all.

This #FamilyReunificationMonth, we celebrate stories like Pierre Cordero’s. When his ex tried to keep him from his son, LAFLA helped him fight for custody—and win. Today, he is a lawyer at LAFLA, helping others do the same. @legalaidla.bsky.social youtu.be/2vSpaQFbuSs?...

With LAFLA's help, Misty and her neighbors won the right to return or relocate with help—and saved much needed affordable housing. Access to free legal services protects our rights and strengthens our communities!
Misty was one of 100 tenants who were suddenly left homeless after a fire destroyed their building. The owner promised repairs, but secretly began illegally converting the low-income housing into a tourist hotel.
