Hi 👋 We’re Legal Aid at Work, a nonprofit that advocates for low-paid and marginalized workers in CA and helps them understand their workplace rights. As workers face unprecedented attacks by abusive employers and the federal government, we’re committed to protecting their rights.
Next up in our 2025 lookback series: Our settlement with CSC, one of the country’s largest event staffing companies. CSC will pay damages and comply with CA’s Fair Chance Act, strengthening job access for 7M Californians with criminal records.

When our coworker confronted our boss about this and asked for more hours, the boss threatened to call immigration authorities.

Discrimination is illegal in the workplace, and it must end now! With support from @legalaidatwork.bsky.social, workers filed complaints w/the CA Civil Rights Department

We are proud to stand in solidarity with these workers who are pushing back against the mistreatment they’ve experienced.

Together, we have filed complaints with the California Civil Rights Department, demanding the company end the alleged discrimination based on age, disability, and race.
BREAKING: Workers at a KFC/TacoBell are on strike in Sunnyvale today due to discrimination and for threatening to report workers to ICE for challenging labor conditions.

After years of attacks, enough is enough.

The strength of Santa Clara County is our diversity and we won’t be silenced!

On #NativeWomensEqualPay Day and every day, we support Native American women workers and commit to fighting for pay equity.
Native women fight not just for a paycheck—but for our families, our sovereignty, and our future. When we are paid less, our entire community feels the loss. Equal pay is about justice, survival, and dignity for all.

California’s Fair Chance Act helps ensure a record isn’t a permanent barrier to work. But true justice means going further: ending the exploitation of incarcerated workers with disabilities, many of whom earn pennies an hour without accommodations.

Immigration raids hurt our food supply chains, our economy, and most importantly, workers and their families. @axios.com reported heartbreaking stories from the Coachella valley, where raids are causing mental health declines and overcrowding at food banks.

Big news for CA workers: Starting Jan. 1, employers can’t use “stay-or-pay” contracts to trap workers in jobs by threatening to make them pay training costs, exit fees, or other penalties for leaving before their contract ends.

Last weekend, our staff joined advocates from across CA at the CELA Conference. We’re grateful for the chance to learn, connect, and strengthen the worker justice movement.

It was especially interesting to hear how courts have interpreted pro-worker legislation championed by our partners.

Trump just called off his plan to deploy federal agents to the Bay Area this weekend, but we’re still concerned about a future escalation. Let’s be clear: a surge of federal agents is not about safety; it’s about state-sanctioned intimidation.
