Two coal power units in Victoria tripped on Thursday and nobody realised, because a gigawatt of wind and solar was available to step into the breach.

Six of the state's 10 coal units were out neatly replaced by batteries, renewables, and a bit of gas.

For every €1 provided through a Basic Income For Artists pilot program in Ireland, the government got €1.46 back. So it’s being made permanent.

Over and over we see it. It saves public money to provide public housing. And it makes public money to provide basic income.

We can’t afford to NOT do it.
Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

“It truly isn’t complicated and never has been…ensure people’s basic needs are guaranteed & affordable... Pretending it’s any more complicated than that, only takes us closer to the cliff’s edge; we know what happens when populations enter free fall” Remeikis

It's really quite simple: We need hope, not more of the same
Politics is not complicated. And anyone who pretends it is, has the luxury of not having spent their lives beholden to it.

Maybe the ‘early, strategic planning’ will happen if there’s a new career path for resources ministers: "Since 2001, every federal resources minister has gone to work in the fossil fuels sector shortly after leaving parliament"

Coal and gas production falls a fair bit in all scenarios behind the govts emissions reduction targets.

The fact it's almost the same in each policy scenario suggests it is driven mostly not by Aust policy in the model.

A more equitable and streamlined approach is a road user charge on all vehicles, based on weight of the vehicle. The government could rescind the fuel excise and impose a pollution tax on fuel if it wanted to make up the revenue gap.
“Basically, everyone should be on the same deal … Just coming up with an EV-only tax just seems to be, well, it seems to be half-witted and half-arse, really. If it's a stepping stone towards a universal road user tax, then that's okay.” Giles Parkinson #auspol

“The US is no longer of any economic benefit to Australia, in direct contrast to China, which has been the guarantor of Australian prosperity for two decades. Is anyone in the government putting their minds to this?”
“How much more evidence does Australia need that being a US ‘ally’ now brings no benefits in the event of a threat from a hostile power? Ask Ukraine. Ask Poland. Ask Qatar …Trump’s words are irrelevant; it’s his actions that tell the story” - Bernard Keane, Crikey

If America descends into fascism, does Australia just grin and bear it?
America is fast becoming a fascist autocracy; some argue it already has. Are Australian policymakers grappling with what this means for our security?

“One policy lever that the government could do very quickly to enable vehicle to grid in Australia, is to say, in order for EVs to be eligible for the fringe benefit tax exemption, they need to be compatible and warranted for vehicle to grid technology.”
““You can get a rebate for your battery if it's a physical battery on your wall. But … vehicle to grid chargers are not covered under the rebate and we think that they should be.”
““Australia, in terms of this transition to a two-way grid, is the most advanced market in the world…”
“The fundamental thing that needs to happen, is that we need to get customers at the center of the transition, owning the solar, the batteries, the EVs, electrifying their homes and automating all of that to respond to what the market needs.”

Not only are combustion engine "hybrid" cars a pretty nasty marketing scam run by car companies to trick well-meaning consumers into burning fossil fuels, the gap between reality and their claims is getting *worse* every year:
