And that’s us done! Thank you for following along - we hope it’s been informative!
We’re finishing up now! Bishop Toby is closing the Synod with a blessing.
The motion is moved, and it passes!
And now our final item of business - approving the amended constitution for the Diocesan Board of Patronage.
The motion is moved, and passes!
Now we’re onto our next motion, on how we allocate the number of lay people to Deanery Synods.
And now we move to the motion on the budget for 2026.
Bishop Toby also encouraging us all to pray as well!
Bishop Toby now encouraging us to respond to the challenges we face now, looking at the helpful conversations we can have now with our neighbours and the wider diocese to prepare for the Parish Share Agreements process.
Geoff is now responding to questions.
And now we move into questions and comments.
Geoff is taking about some very specific numbers - budgets and finances can seem daunting, but as Bishop Toby said earlier, we need to be capable of talking about money well, so we can plan for the future and address these issues, so we can be continue to minister in our region.
As part of our financial plans, we’ve started our Parish Share Agreements process, which is all about working with parishes to work out share requests that are positive and achievable when looking at a church’s local context. More on this to come very soon!
Geoff Park, Diocesan Chief Finance Officer, is now presenting on the details of our finances, looking at 2025 and the budget for 2026.
Irving is also reminding us that money has to be talked about, so we can continue to minister across the diocese.
Irving is speaking about the importance of Parish Share, the contributions made by our parishes, in covering the costs of clergy - their stipends, housing and pensions.
And we’re back! We’re looking at diocesan finances and the 2026 budget - Canon Irving Warnett is introducing the item.
And the motion passes! We now break for coffee - back at 11.45am.
A good debate - lots of good conversation about how we can build trust between clergy, PCCs and us all, which is key to any process supporting wellbeing.
And now back together - we’re now moving to questions and comments.
We’re now breaking into discussion groups, reflecting on what we’ve heard and how our churches might care for their clergy.
Lots of practical tips being shared about how a church can support their clergy person, to make sure their wellbeing is looked after.
We’re hearing about the experience of one PCC reflecting on the covenant, thinking through the issues it brought up and how we can better support clergy.
And now onto our next item - Revd Canon Rachel Firth is introducing our item asking PCCs to reflect on the Church of England’s new covenant for the care and wellbeing of clergy.
